South Beach Diet Meal Replacement Bars: Pleasantly Satsifying

Meal Replacement Bars, South Beach, South Beach Diet

The South Beach Diet is not a traditional low carb diet plan. The diet plan emphasizes eating the right carbohydrates, such as whole grains, certain fruits and vegetables.

The diet plan works in phases. Phase One is a two week kick start. Dieters eat normal size portions of lean meat, fish, reduced fat cheese, nonfat yogurt, nuts and vegetables. Snacks and desserts are also part of the plan.

Phases two is when certain carbohydrates are reintroduced into the nutrition plan. In Phase two whole grains and some fruits are allowed.
Dieters remain on Phase two until the goal weight is reached.

Phase three is the maintenance phase. Phase three is lifestyle plan where dieters learn to make good choices.

I am not on the South Beach Diet, but I did pick up and try the South Beach Meal Replacement Bars. I tried a Peanut Butter Chocolate bar and a Chocolate Crisp Bar.

The meal replacement bars give a good protein boost, with 19 gram of protein per nutrition bar. Each bar contain 210 calories. The high protein is a good ratio of protein for that amount of calories. The nutritional makeup of the bars also includes: 6 grams total fat, 0 grams cholesterol, 18 grams of sugar alcohol and 26 grams total carbohydrate. Overall, I feel that the bar is a good nutrition value, unless you are watching sugar intake.

The meal replacement bars are designed for Phase 2 of the South Beach Diet.

The bars are generously sized compared to other meal replacement bars I have tried. The bars have a bulkier appearance because they consist largely of lightweight crisped rice. The actual weight of the bars is 2.11 oz.

South Beach Meal Replacement bars consist of crisped rice with a chocolate coating on the bottom. South Beach Meal Replacement Bars can be purchased at the supermarket or convenience store for about $2.

I bit into the bar and found a pleasantly satisfying texture that was both crunchy and chewy. “The bar was good tasting, although on the somewhat sweet side. After eating about half of the bar, it started to feel dry to the taste.

I tried the peanut butter chocolate and the chocolate crisp flavors. The peanut butter chocolate bar tasted a little sweeter to me. I preferred the chocolate crisp bar. The peanut bar had a light peanut butter taste, that was not overbearing. The chocolate bar had chocolate laced throughout the bar. The crisped rice is cocoa coated.. The chocolate layer had a good chocolate taste and was not sugary tasting.

The weather was hot and the bottom layer of chocolate melted a little in my hand. The meltability probably means that the chocolate is good, but I would urge caution if eating them on a warm day to avoid making a chocolate mess.

Bottom line is that I did like the South Beach Diet Meal Replacement Bars, but would probably not make a steady diet of them. I think I would get tired of the sweetness of the bars after a while.

As an occasional snack, or meal replacement on the go, I think the South Beach Diet Meal Replacement Bars are very good.
