Jenny Craig’s Metabolic Max program incorporates the Body Media FIT system armband and activity manager, a new technology that tracks calories burned.
As a lifetime member of Jenny Craig, I was happy to see the new Metabolic Max Program announced because I’ve always felt the Jenny Craig consultants needed more accurate information about the number of calories burned by clients.
When I joined Jenny Craig along with a friend back in the early 1990s we were both put on 1,000 or 1,200 calorie diets, even though our exercise and activity level was extremely high.
So how quickly will you lose weight using the Jenny Craig Metabolic Max program? A lot of people lose 10 pounds the first week on Jenny Craig and then about 1 to 2 pounds a week thereafter. The initial weight loss has to do with the low-sodium diet and complete revamping of one’s diet. But the question of does Jenny Craig work depends on the individual person and whether they make it a lifestyle change.
A lot of people are asking, “Do I have to join Jenny Craig to use the Body Media FIT system?” The answer is “no.” But the Jenny Craig program does provide additional one-on-one coaching which is extremely helpful.
You can order the Body Media FIT system on-line at their website. The arm band that tracks calories, activity manager and display costs about $250 while the package without the display (a watch) costs about $200.
So what’s the Body Media FIT System all about?
You wear the armband on your upper left arm all day and night. The armband tracks calories burned, step count, sleep duration and sleep efficiency.
You then upload the data onto your computer and log in the foods you eat.
The armband does look a little conspicuous, but it’s worth it.
I have always liked tools that give you a more accurate picture of the number of calories you burn. You can have your resting metabolic rate tested by a trainer, but that does not tell you how many calories you burn throughout the day while being active; only what you burn at a minimum while resting.
Some special scales will estimate how many calories you burn based on your muscle mass.
The Body Media FIT System is definitely a step up from the other technology out there.
Does Jenny Craig work?
I think it can work even better now with the armband that tracks calories. As far as the Jenny Craig Metabolic Max program, I think it’s the missing piece Jenny Craig has needed to better help clients reach those lower weight levels and high fitness levels. Many of the Jenny Craig frozen meals are too high in sugar in my opinion, which is not surprising since they are generally “comfort diet foods.” Jenny Craig was on the right track with its Volumetrics approach which added a lot of salads, vegetable and fruits to the existing frozen meals.
I’d like to see a line of lower sugar, organic, calorie-reduced Jenny Craig meals that don’t have to heated up in the microwave. But for the typical overweight person looking for convenience and a comfort food, Jenny Craig is perfect. The Jenny Craig foods are tastier than the frozen Lean Cusine or Weight Watchers meals. They are easier to eat if you are used to frozen meals as opposed to eating clean with fresh, organic foods.
For my review of the Jenny Craig Metabolic Max program using the Body Media FIT System, I award 4.8 out of 5 stars. Even if you aren’t a Jenny Craig member, I highly recommend the Body Media FIT System.
