Gilad’s Bodies in Motion

Muscle Toning

Are you happy with your physical appearance? Are you tired of battling your bulges? Have you been searching for a means of exercise you can stick with? Any fitness expert can tell you that maintaining a healthy weight is a combination of both nutrition and exercise. Along with eating better, Gilad’s “Bodies in Motion”, seen on FitTV, is a great way of exercising that will help you take off the weight and keep it off. I’m living proof.

Like many people out there, I’ve struggled with weight all my life. As a youngster I had never thought of myself as heavy until one day in the tenth grade. Each year, during gym class, all of the students were given mini-physicals by the school doctor, which included height and weight measurements. Twenty nine years later I still remember the feeling of shock as I walked back towards my seat in the bleachers after being told I weighed a hefty 255 lbs. From that day forward, whenever I look in the mirror I’ve seen a fat person. Needless to say, this doesn’t do much for a person’s self-esteem.

Over the years, I tried all sorts of things to gain control of my weight. Diets, gym memberships, yoga classes, and even reciting a couple of rosaries, all proved fruitless. Many times I’d follow through on a diet and exercise regimen that would help me lose weight, only to eventually fail and regain it back again. Luckily, about three years ago I discovered a secret that would change my life.

About three years ago, a friend in my yoga class asked me if I had tried Gilad. I was about 210 lbs. at the time.

“Who?” I asked.

She explained that he was the guy on TV doing exercises on the beach in Hawaii. I immediately knew who she was talking about. She and her husband had many of his shows taped and did them regularly to keep in shape. Gilad Janklowicz’ show, Bodies in Motion, has since transformed my life. Three years later, I’ve slowly, but steadily shred over fifty pounds, and at 44 I’m looking better than I ever did before!

Gilad Janklowicz is the Jack LaLane of our time. You may not know who he is by name, but I’ll bet you know of him. His fitness/exercise television show has been running in syndication on various channels since the mid eighties, and I’m sure you’ve run into him and his friends working out on the beach while channel surfing.

“Bodies in Motion” is a great and simple way to get in shape. The half hour show is broadcast regularly on Discovery Channel’s FitTV, and consists of four short segments focusing on different aspects of exercise: warming up and aerobics, muscle toning, abdominals, and stretching. Each portion is about 5-7 minutes long, with about two minutes for stretching and cooling down. The exercises are relatively easy, and the workout is so short it’s easy to stick to it. I aim to work out the twenty plus minute routine five times per week.

Here’s what to expect in the segments:

Warm up usually consists of some very basic movements such as walking in place, step tapping from side to side, adding some arm movements along the way. The idea is to get your heart pumping so you can move on safely and easily to the actual workout.

Aerobics is just that: cardiovascular movements, both high and low impact that are designed to burn fat and calories. Most of the movements are simple to learn and not too rigorous, especially if you stick with it. As you keep working out and getting into better shape, you’ll get more adept at doing them all with little or no effort. Compared to other fitness shows, the moves here are simple. Besides, as Gilad says, “if it’s too difficult, just go back to walking in place.” Indeed, the key here is to keep your “body in motion.”

Muscle toning includes all parts of the body, with a focus on different muscle groups each day. Earlier episodes made no use of weights, as the later ones do (FitTV runs both regularly.). For working out to either, it’s a good idea to have a set or two of dumbbells in any weight you feel comfortable with using.

The cool down segment brings your body back to a relaxing state with some awesomely feel good stretches that you can employ during other parts of your day when your body could use a little stretchy relief.

Working out to “Bodies in Motion” has been a boon to my appearance and self confidence. It’s been the easiest form of exercise I’ve been able to make a regular part of my life. It’s definitely not a workout for those looking to build a muscular physique, but rather for those who’d like to look and feel better. Making it a regular part of your life will naturally lead to a focus on other aspects of a healthy lifestyle, such as nutrition and other forms of exercise. With Bodies in Motion being as easily accessible as the television and DVR, it’s a fitness regimen that’s easy to keep at and find success with. I have, and so can you!
