Keeping Breasts Perky After Pregnancy

Male Breasts, Pregnancy Weight, Sagging Breasts, Weight Gain During Pregnancy

One of my biggest fears in pregnancy was that my breasts would look horrible afterwards. I was excited to be pregnant, and didn’t mind the increased breast size as I had always been a 34B, but I was terrified that after I delivered my baby and discontinued breastfeeding, my breasts would sag down and look awful.

For most women, there is no great need to worry about sagging breasts if you follow precautions to prevent sagging. If you are prone to sagging breasts, there is an increased risk that your breasts will sag after pregnancy, but there are a number of things you can do to prevent or at least minimize the sagging.

Wear supportive bras during your pregnancy. This will not only provide your breasts with proper support, but you will be more comfortable. If you continue to wear the same bra you wore before you became pregnant, you will likely be very uncomfortable and your breasts will not receive the proper support. You may also want to wear supportive undergarments to bed, even if you did not do so before.

Monitor your weight gain during pregnancy. Most medical providers recommend gaining between 25 to 35 pounds during pregnancy, if you were at a healthy weight before becoming pregnant. Underweight women should gain more and overweight women should gain less. In any case, you should try to gain the amount of weight recommended by your doctor. Excessive weight gain will cause your breasts to become even larger than they would otherwise, and the increased weight and stretched skin will put you at risk for sagging breasts later on.

Keep your skin well-moisturized. This will help your skin maintain its elasticity and help it rebound from the stretching after your pregnancy. There are numerous lotions available which are designed specifically for pregnancy, but any moisturizing lotion will do the trick.

Buy some bras to fit properly after pregnancy. If you plan to breastfeed, you will probably go through several different sizes after you give birth. Your changing breast size will require different sizes of bras to get the proper support. Switching directly from your pregnancy bras back to your pre-pregnancy bras will not provide you with proper support.

Lose your pregnancy weight at a moderate pace. This will help not only with sagging breasts, but also with sagging skin in other areas. When you lose weight at a rapid rate, your skin will not have enough time to bounce back from its previously stretched condition, and this will cause loose skin and sagging all over your body.

Lift weights. Strengthening your upper body muscles will provide extra support to your breast tissue, lifting your breasts and making them appear perkier. Lifting weights will also help you lose weight because it will burn calories and create muscle tissue, which burns more calories than fat tissue, even when you are at rest. Be sure to wear a sports bra which provides proper support during your workout.

Following these tips will help you to keep your breasts looking their best after pregnancy. Even if your genetics seem to have doomed you to sagging breasts, you can follow these simple tips to minimize the sagging of your breasts.
