Top 5 Wicked Witch Makeup Essentials

Oktoberfest Recipes, Stage Makeup, Wicked, Wicked Witch

Are you thinking about dressing up as a stereotypical wicked witch this Halloween? If so, you should consider taking a peek at my list of the top five wicked witch makeup essentials every gal needs. Here it is:

Witch Character Base Cream

Every wicked witch’s makeup job worth its, “I’ll get you my pretty”, needs to start out with a palette of cream based makeup. There is a multitude of theatrical and costume shops that sell a variety of character based creams. A wicked witch’s base skin tone of choice is green. I’d suggest that you consider purchasing Ben Nye’s Witch Green Crème Character Base. In most instances, a .05 ounce container of the stuff will lighten your cauldron by about $5. You’ll also want to pick up white, yellow, black and brown cream makeup as well. That way you can bring out all your wicked facial features.

Witch Contact Lenses

Wicked witches are known for casting an evil eye upon those who seek to get in their way. With that said, a devilishly delightful pair of specialty contact lenses should be a part of every wicked witch’s ensemble. You can generally purchase a pair of witch contact lenses through specialty retailers, like Demon Eyez, for $25 or more a pair. A few of my favorite witch contact lens patterns are moon and stars, glow-in-the-dark green, frozen ghost and black sclera.

Witch’s Wart

Whether you call them warts or beauty marks, one thing is certain. If you want to adopt a convincing, wicked witch persona for Halloween, you’ll need to don at least one of them. You may opt to purchase ready-made wart prosthetics through a costume shop or make your own. In my experience, a prosthetic wart kit will generally cost you $5 and perhaps a little eye of newt. Personally, I like to sculpt my own witch’s warts with modeling putty and a smattering of crepe hair. Whichever route you take, just make sure that you also have an ample supply of spirit gum and spirit gum remover on hand. Otherwise you won’t be able to attach or remove the warts properly.

Witch’s Nose

When it comes to a wicked witch’s nose, size does matter. A classic, wicked witch tends to sport a big nose. Of course there are other ladies of darkness that don’t want to cut such a wide profile. What size witch’s nose you choose is ultimately up to you. You will, however, have to make sure that it is attached to your face properly and matches the rest of your makeup. Ready-made, prosthetic witch noses may be purchased through costume shops for around $6 each. You could also opt to make your own witch’s nose using a combination of liquid latex and modeling putty.

Witch’s Smile

Last but not least, in order to be the ghastliest gal of them all, you’ll need to flash a wicked smile. The best way to get one is to purchase a bottle of Tooth F/X. Based on my experience, a .25 ounce bottle of Tooth F/X will cost you approximately $6 through theatrical supply shops. It comes in an array of colors and is applied to your teeth using a brush. You can use it to turn your teeth a lovely sallow color or a tempting tan. If those colors don’t curl your witch’s toes, you could always purchase a set of fangs or black out a few teeth with a bottle of black Tooth F/X.
