Ten DIY Baby Animal Costumes

Baby Stuff, Child Parenting

There is nothing cuter than a baby dressed up for their first Halloween. And who can deny a baby dressed up as a baby animal? Here are online patterns and instructions for ten DIY animal costumes for babies:

Make-Baby-Stuff.com

Lady Bug
This costume from make-baby-stuff.com is very simple and requires little time and money to make – the base for the costume is a onesie. The fact that the shell is detachable from the onesie definitely helps with easy cleaning and transportation (as noted by the creator). The sewing of the felt isn’t difficult, and a template is provided to create the dome necessary for the lady bug shell. The creator definitely made sure all of their bases were covered with this costume, providing pictures and extra tips for the costume.

Penguin
In this pattern from the same website as the previous Lady Bug costume, the creator provides a simple and easy to follow process for making a penguin costume. They also include patterns necessary for extra additions to the costume as well as links for pants for the costume. Also, the hooded head for the outfit provides an easy one piece outfit as well as something to keep the baby warm incase it is a cold Halloween. Also, this pattern is easily transformed into patterns for other animals, as noted at the end of the instructions. These instructions are just as easy.

Turtle
The idea for this costume is simple, and seems easy enough to create. The instructions are simple to follow, though a photo of at least the end product would have been nice – how is one to know they’ve done it correctly? This pattern also seems to have more freedom about what one would like to add to the costume. Though it isn’t too in-depth itself, it is inexpensive and warm for the child.

Lobster
If you’ve ever seen the pictures of babies dressed as lobsters while their parents hold them in a pot, and then wondered where you could get said outfit, Parenting.com has answered this question. This pattern is more directed towards those who don’t want to sew, and the additional items necessary can be found at any craft store. The fact that the outfit needs a sweatshirt or vest as the base gives the child something warm to wear in the likely cold holiday. The outfit is too cute to pass on.

Dragon
Very similar to the before mentioned Lobster costume from Parenting.com, this Dragon costume is warm for the child with inexpensive additions to create it. It is also removable, perfect for travel, changing, or eating. The costume also requires bike reflectors, not only for the eyes, but also for safety around the neighborhood. Like the previous costume, it’s cute and warm, perfect for Halloween.

Baby Chick
Also from Parenting.com, this Baby Chick costume is too cute for words. It’s more of an indoor costume, as it looks to involve a short sleeved onesie. Though the instructions are easy to follow, just like the previous two from the same website, it doesn’t give a formal list of the items necessary to make it. The best thing one can do is read the instructions for the items before creation.

Allcrafts.net

Bunny
This outfit, with the base being a baby’s sweat suit, is one of the easiest and least expensive to make. All of the items for it can be found in any home. Though the website doesn’t give a picture of the final outfit, the instructions are easy enough to follow without trouble.

Puppy
Having the same base as the Bunny costume, the Puppy costume is just as easily made and just as inexpensive. There isn’t any sewing involved at all, either. There isn’t a picture, like the other on the same site, but again, the instructions are just as easily followed.

Fleecefarm.com

Cat
Though there isn’t a picture for the finished product for this costume, it does include an extensive items list and an easy to follow step by step process. Also, there are extra details and patterns for the different items for the costume. It isn’t all on one page, but all parts are easy to put together.

Cow
From the same site, fleecefarm.com, as the Cat costume, this Cow costume is easy to make, sewing being unnecessary, and the items for it are inexpensive. The process is also the same, being simple to follow, and there are extra instructions for additions to the costume. Due to the fact that both require sweat suits for the base, the costumes are quite warm, just in case the weather is cooler.

Though retail items are becoming more and more expensive as time goes on in America, there is always an endless supply of creativity, DIY costumes included. Make this year a safe and inexpensive Halloween.
