Tips for Coping with PMS

Bloating, Food Cravings, Mood Swings, Water Retention

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is something that we all dread every month. Not only does cause mood swings, irritability, emotional feelings, and food cravings but it also causes bloating, headaches and so much more depending on your body. Although PMS is never something that we look forward to, there are several things that you can do in order to help yourself cope with PMS the best way possible.

Let Yourself Indulge A Little

When you are on a diet, chances are that you really do not want to break it. In reality, your cravings for chocolate (or whatever other type of food that you crave) is still going to be there if you do not satisfy it. Instead of making yourself go crazy, why not allow yourself to eat some chocolate? While you probably do not want to go overboard on the chocolate, allowing yourself one or two pieces each day will not kill you. It will also probably help you feel a little bit better about yourself during this long, stressful week.

Prevent Bloating To Begin With

If you did not already know, bloating is caused by water retention. There are several things that you can do in order to prevent water retention from affecting you. One of the best ways to prevent it is by avoiding soda or any other type of carbonated drink, as these drinks actually promote water retention. If you are on the birth control pill, it is important to make sure that you take your last week of pills. In most cases, they are designed as a diuretic, in order to prevent bloating. However, common misconception is that they do not do anything for you and many people avoid taking them.

Know How To Control Mood Swings

Mood swings can get to bit a bit uncontrollable during the week of PMS. Luckily, there are several things that you can naturally do to prevent mood swings which are too awful. One of the things that you can do is eat foods which are known to help you feel “happier.” Some of these foods include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fish. Another thing that you may want to think about is going on the birth control pill, which may help you deal with mood swings better.

Don’t Give Up Exercise During This Week

A lot of women give up their exercise regimens during the week of their PMS. This is often not something that you should do. It is best to keep this week of the month as close to the way that the rest of the month would normally be. Not doing so may cause you to feel a bit more depressed than you normally would be. Exercise is a great way to get some of your emotions out, as well as a great way to beat food cravings in some cases. You will also probably feel both happier and healthier. Overall, the main key is to realize that you should not give up exercising just because it is time for PMS.
