The Cosmopolitan Hotel, Hong Kong – Review

Cosmopolitan, Late Night Restaurants

Most hotels try to keep their lobby as clean, neat, and appealing as possible. The Cosmopolitan hotel takes it a step further by offering free WiFi and using scented sprays to take your experience to the next level. Although the staff is well trained and very accommodating, I found the location of the hotel to be a hindrance to my travels.

The Cosmopolitan is located across the street from the Happy Valley racetrack, but it’s a decent walk from the closest MTR (Hong Kong’s subway system) station. Moreover, if you want a late night snack, you have to walk at least 4 blocks to get to a store that’s open late. The hotel has their own restaurant on the 2nd floor, but like many hotel restaurants the prices are somewhat inflated. Fortunately, the hotel offers a shuttle to Wan Chai, Admiralty, and Central MTR stations every half hour, but it mainly runs during the day.

For superstitious people, the Cosmopolitan may be totally out of the question because it’s located next to a cemetery. For the rooms in the rear, the glass windows were frosted so that the guest doesn’t have to look upon the eye sore. If you do stay in the hotel, you should try to request a room facing the front of the hotel. The sizes of the standard rooms are average by Hong Kong standards, meaning they’re probably 200 square feet or less. The shower stalls are pretty small as well and the beds seem shorter. If you’re over 6 feet tall, you may want to consider speaking with the front desk to see if they have longer beds.

If you prefer to save money on the hotel and walk a little more, then the Cosmopolitan might be the hotel for you. The rates are definitely cheap compared to most Hong Kong hotels at that level, ranging between $100 and $160 per night for a standard room. However, if you prefer not to walk a lot and can afford a hotel closer to public transportation and late night restaurants, you should expect to pay closer to $200 per night on average.
