Revlon Color Burst Lip Butters Review

Lip Butter, Lip Products, Skin Tones

The Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters are one of the hottest new drugstore lip products on the market today. They sell in 20 different shades ranging from light, sheer, everyday lip colors to more vampy, and pigmented reds and browns. The Revlon website claims that they are a buttery balm with beautiful shiny color, to give you baby soft, healthy glowing lips, and that 94% of women felt lips were softer, smoother, and instantly hydrated. They also claim to be infused with mango, shea and cocoa butter formulas to boost lip moisture by 156%. My review will prove or disprove all of these claims, help you decide which lip butter will suite you best, and determine whether or not these inexpensive lip products are as high quality as they are rumored to be.

1.Creme Brulée
Creme brulee is a soft brown tinted nude. It is very sheer, and in my opinion, the most natural of the collection. It gives the lips a soft nude sheen, but does not have very much lasting power. Would flatter all skin tones.

2.Gumdrop
Gumdrop is a light, cool toned violet, or “gumdrop” pink. It has a medium pigmentation, but a rather sticky application, as opposed to buttery. Compliments my cool undertones well, but might be too blue-toned for warmer skin tones.

3.Cupcake
Cupcake is a sheer, bright pink. It is not the most pigmented, nor is it long lasting, and has a sticky application. It is my favorite shade of all the lip butters I own but my least favorite application wise. Would look nice on warmer or neutral skin tones.

4.Strawberry Shortcake
Strawberry shortcake is a very pigmented, buttery smooth, peachy/pink lip color. Out of all the lighter colors previously listed, it is the longest lasting. Would compliment all skin tones.

5.Lollipop
Lollipop is also very buttery and extremely pigmented. Its bright fucsia/hot pink coloring is very daring and eye catching. Not something I would wear for everyday, but a flattering shade nonetheless. Would compliment most skin tones.

6.Brown Sugar
Brown sugar has a very smooth application, but dries sticky. For “brown” sugar, it appears more orange, at best a dusty brown. A nice color but too warm for my cool undertones. I find it hard to style, and not very wearable, but long lasting. This is my least favorite shade out of the eight lip butters I purchased.

7.Cherry Tart
Cherry tart is a very pigmented bright red. However, it is not a true cherry red, and has more of a strawberry red undertone. Despite its good pigmentation, it has a streaky application that is difficult to blend. This is my least favorite shade on my own lips, but could easily work for someone else.

8.Red Velvet
Out of all the shades I purchased, red velvet is surely the darkest and most pigmented. I love the deep wine red color against my skin, but like cherry tart it is very streaky. However, it is very long lasting and smooth, almost similar to a lip stain, and because of that it is my favorite red lipstick in general.

Overall Opinion
I highly enjoy these lip butters and wear them daily, despite the slight stickiness and occasional lack of pigmentation. As far as hydration, I haven’t seen any improvement to my lips, and they can even be as drying as a normal lipstick at times, though they are easier to apply. The lighter shades can even be swiped on as a lip balm, while the darker shades still require a mirror for precise application. All of the shades have a slight shimmer to them, which normally I’m not a fan of, but the shimmer isn’t overpowering. Overall I would give this product a 3 or 4 star rating out of 5 and would reccomend them to anyone. The price ranges between $5.00 to $8.00 depending where they are purchased (mine, $7.95 at my local drugstore), and at that price I feel they are well worth a try.
