Review of Activia Yogurt by Dannon

Activia, Dannon

I suffer from irregularity. I decided to try Activia. It is hard to go wrong with their guarantee that if I ate Activia every day for two weeks and wasn’t satisfied I would get my money back.

Now, you may ask, what does “satisfied” mean? It means that I would not be constipated any more. Well actually they don’t use the word constipated but rather that food will go through my intestines faster than it would without Activia. This yogurt has a natural culture called Bifidus Regular that is supposed to help my digestive system. In other words I would be going to the bathroom regularly.

Activia is made by Dannon, which is a yogurt I like but since it isn’t organic I rarely buy it. Activia is not organic but I did decide to try it. I had a coupon for one four pack which retails for $2.99. Oddly enough the challenge is for 14 days so I had to buy four packs spending more money than I needed to.

It comes in a tiny 4-ounce container so don’t plan to fill up on Activia. Activia has milk and wheat so if you are going gluten free you won’t want to try this yogurt. Some of the ingredients do not impress me. You will find fructose syrup, carmine, which is a food coloring and corn starch.

Activia is said to be proven to help with regularity when eaten for 14 days. I am not sure what you are supposed to do after 14 days. It can’t fix us forever in 14 days so that doesn’t make sense. In addition we are supposed to eat Activia as part of a good diet and a healthy lifestyle i.e. exercise would be my take on those vague words. Exercise and water will help your digestive system and is a lot cheaper.

One small container of my flavor will cost you (Different flavors will change these numbers a bit.) 110 calories, 2 grams of fat, one of which is saturated fat, 19 grams of sugar and 5 grams of protein. The vitamins are minuscule. If you go with Light Activia that will cut your calories in half and give you three grams of fiber. What is really strange is that after googling Activia to look for the nutritional analysis I saw that my flavor and others have no fiber listed. It says, “dietary fiber – 0. “source

I love yogurt but am not thrilled with the taste of Activia. I love vanilla yogurt but I have found the Vanilla and Cereal flavor to be a bit sour tasting. It burns my tongue a little.

My bottom line: I take a probiotic every day and do better with Miralax mixed with water (tasteless) at night. I think that the marketing of Activia along with the well liked Jaimee Lee Curtis has done this product well – better than it deserves.
