Activia Dessert Review: A Dieter’s Dream

Activia, Dannon, Vanilla Bean

Activia Dessert flavors are probably supposed to give you the feeling of having Strawberry Cheesecake, Peach Cobbler, Blueberry Cheesecake and, perhaps, a bowl of vanilla bean ice cream.

But are they smooth and tasty enough to trick my dieting brain into feeling as though I just came out of the Cheesecake Factory? I was curious how the Dannon Activia Dessert flavors compared to YoCrunch by Breyers.

I decided to try the Strawberry Cheesecake and Vanilla Bean flavors for my review of the Activia Dessert flavors.

I think any of the Activia Dessert flavors would blend in well with the Almased: Bikini Emergency Shakes which often need the flavor boost of a sweetened yogurt.

I’ve always considered yogurt a bit of a dessert anyway since it usually contains a lot of sugar. I was pleased with my taste test of Activia Dessert. I did not have to take the Activia 14 day challenge since I’m regular.

Here’s what you need to know about the Activia Dessert yogurts by Dannon:

No. 1: Reason why I would purchase the Activia Dessert yogurts by Dannon again: The yogurts contain only 140 calories which is considerably fewer calories than any dessert you can have in a restaurant.

No. 2: Reason why I would purchase the Activia Dessert yogurts by Dannon again: It contains only 4 grams of fat, 100 mg of sodium, 6 grams of protein, and is a good source of calcium.

No. 3: Reason why I would purchase the Activia Dessert yogurts by Dannon again: It is fairly high in sugar with 17 grams but at least they use real sugar and not high fructose corn syrup or artificial sweeteners. It’s wise not to exceed 20 grams of sugar in a dessert.

No. 4: Reason why I would purchase the Activia Dessert yogurts by Dannon again: The texture was velvety smooth and the taste was nice. Obviously you know you aren’t really eating cheesecake, but it’s a great improvement over other yogurts that are hard to swallow.

No. 5: Reason why I would purchase the Activia Dessert yogurts by Dannon again: It contains healthy probiotics. I’m a fan of yogurts with extra active yogurt cultures. Activia does help when I have a problem with regularity. And, unlike the hilarious skits on Saturday Night Live making fun of how yogurts such as Activia may work too well, most people do fine with Activia as long as they don’t eat more than one!

Activia is known for its 14 day Activia Challenge, and the Activia desserts are included because they also include active cultures.

I think Activia Dessert is a great substitution for dessert – especially if I forgot to have yogurt for breakfast or could not squeeze it in earlier in the day!
