Natural Ways to Treat Anxiety Attacks

Treat Anxiety

Anxiety is very common among people, and it is detrimental to our overall well-being. If anxiety goes untreated, you run the risk of altering the way you live your life. Anxiety affects the way we think and behave. Someone suffering from anxiety will experience irrational fear on a daily basis.

Social life and relationships may be damaged as a result of anxiety, so it is extremely important to treat anxiety as early as possible so you can continue to live life the way that you want. If the problem goes on without any treatment, the person suffering may end up doing irrational things that may or may not involve hurting themselves and others. These are some all natural ways to treat anxiety before it is too late.

First, meditation is a very useful technique when it comes to dealing with stress and anxiety. Meditation promotes relaxation. In meditation, we focus on breathing and ‘just sitting’ (Zen) without thinking about anything. This may seem boring and pointless, but the truth is this is one of the most effective ways to clear your mind and stop stressing.

Immediate results of meditation include slowed heart rate, more steady movements, relaxation, and improved focus and concentration. There are proper techniques and postures associated with meditating, but if done properly and regularly it is very effective.

The food we eat also plays a role in our mood. A well balanced diet is crucial to maintaining good mental health. I would recommend eating natural and organic foods as opposed to processed foods loaded with preservatives and chemicals. Also, fish and fish oil is known to decrease depression and promote focus and concentration which directly results in a happier uplifting mood. If your anxiety is associated with your weight, a well-balanced diet can certainly help you feel more confident and have less anxiety.

Another step you need to take is to be active. You should exercise every other day, as it is proven that exercising reduces levels of stress and anxiety. Try exercising for at least 30 minutes a day. Exercising gives you something to focus on, and who doesn’t want to get in shape as well? Kick your problems to the curb for a little while.

There are many herbal treatments that are available in your local drug store that have been known to promote a positive mood and help you relax. A few of these are 5-hydroxytryptophan, valerian root, skullcap, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, hops, and many more. These can be used as an alternative to prescription medication and they are all over-the-counter and inexpensive.

Another thing to keep in mind is to laugh once in a while. Watch some comedies or hang out with your funny and goofy friends that you love so much. Laughing is a great way to maintain a positive mood.

One last thing is to try to figure out where the anxiety is stemming from. Sometimes you will be caught off guard by anxiety, and will not know where it came from or what to do. But there is almost always a trigger. Don’t think too hard about it or you might cause yourself even more stress, but if the trigger is obvious to you, do something about it! When you identify the trigger you can deal with it by using any of the previously mentioned techniques and treatments to take action.
