Losing Weight with Suzanne Somers – “Somersizing” Products

Recipe Contest, Suzanne Somers

Remember Suzanne Somers from the old Three’s Company TV series? She played the curvy dumb blond with a snorting laugh and wore her hair in an extreme part, with most of it pulled all the way over to one side of her head in a big ponytail. Turns out the “dumb blond” wasn’t so dumb after all! She’s pretty, she’s smart, and she’s written a ton of books. Whenever she goes through a crisis, she leaves a trail of virtual breadcrumbs (in the form of published works) for the rest of us, so we can follow the best path. Her books can be found at the following Internet sites: www.HSN.com, www.eBay.com and www.Amazon.com.

.Suzanne has had to battle weight gain as she has aged and she took the battle seriously. Seriously enough to put together new products so that we can have desserts, candy treats, condiments, etc. without weight gain. Well, providing that a person doesn’t eat too much at one sitting.

After a bout with breast cancer, she has also published books detailing the route she chose to go, and giving the latest in up-to-date information for the rest of us. Her latest book on menopause, peri-menopause (pre-menopause), hot flashes, bio-identical hormones and how to minimize the effects of aging is called “Ageless” and can be obtained from www.hsn.com and www.amazon.com.

Suzanne has published several books on her diet and health plan, called “SomerSizing.” She is a gourmet cook who loves to cook and to eat, however she is in the public eye too much to be able to gain weight. Her books detail SomerSizing’s eating plan and give many delicious recipes. With the diet plan and the recipes came the food. Her website (www.SuzanneSomers.com) offers the full range of her delicious products. It is hard not to drool while scrolling through the food items. Her butter toffee is divine, by the way.

I started buying Suzanne Somers’ SomerSweet over four years ago. It was pretty new at that time. SomerSweet is a sweetener made from a very fine fructose which doesn’t elevate blood sugar as quickly as normal sugar does. It has a sprouted mung bean extract, and the other ingredients which people are less familiar with include Inulin, Oligofructose, and Acesulfame K. Suzanne says her sweetener is “all natural” and does not contain any chemicals.

I have purchased many cans of SomerSweet and have used the stuff to make meringues, chocolate fudge cake, ice creams, condiments and pies, among other items. We’re talking a serious sweet tooth here!

The good thing about SomerSweet is that it comes in a can with its own one-eighth teaspoon measure, is about four times sweeter than regular table sugar, and is a way to sweeten your food up without suffering the effects of regular sugar, such as elevated blood sugar or weight gain.

The downside to SomerSweet is that once you have opened the little can, it has been known to take on moisture from the surrounding air, and that if you use too much of it at one time, there is discernible bitter taste among the sweetness. It is four times as sweet as sugar, so a little goes a long way. I have found that leaving the paper literature inside the can, and being sure to keep the lid on nice and tight has kept my SomerSweet dry.

If you would like the recipe for the delicious chocolate cake with fudge frosting which is good enough to serve to any dinner guests, and which would never be detected as a “diet” dessert, the recipe can be found in Suzanne Somers’ book, Somersize Desserts, Crown Publishers (New York) Copyright 2001. The book is available on www.Amazon.com, in both new and used volumes. When I checked, there was actually a used book available selling for $2.00 plus shipping/handling!

The chocolate cake with fudge frosting recipe is on page 39. Other offerings in the book include Decaf Coffee Granita with Perfectly Whipped Cream, Creme Brulee, New York-Style Cheesecake (I make this one a LOT!), SomerSweet Truffles, Dark Chocolate Mousse, Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, Chocolate Bundt Cake, Wild Mountain Blueberry Pie, etc.

Suzanne Somers separates her recipes into two categories: Level One and Level Two. If you are serious about losing some weight, you would want to stick with Level One recipes until you get to your goal. If you are more into maintenance and health, Level Two works well. Somersize Desserts features recipes in both categories!

If you are interested in a delicious way to lose weight, Suzanne Somers offers gourmet-quality recipes in her many cookbooks, and if you are busy or not “into” cooking, she offers desserts, candies, condiments, ice cream sauces and ice cream mixes, chips and other snacks, finishing sauces, drinks, breads and meats for sale which are shipped right to your door on her own website: www.SuzanneSomers.com. It isn’t cheap, but it comes right to your door, is top quality, tastes terrific and not at all like a diet product, and saves time.

For those who want the benefits of Somersizing, but do not have the money, Suzanne’s cookbooks give you the recipes. You can make your own (sugar free) ketchup, salad dressings, chocolate sauce, marinara sauce, creme brulee, etc., things that you might otherwise buy already made or packaged in a mix.

Suzanne Somers hasn’t only relied upon her own massive cooking talent and ideas though. She periodically holds recipe contests and publishes the winning recipes! Her Suzanne Somers’ Somersize Recipe Contest Cookbook, published by SLC Sweet, Inc., 2002, is stuffed full of delicious recipes! One of my favorites is the Yummy Chicken Parmesan on page 99. Oh boy (!) is that good! Another favorite of this little cookbook is Crepe Chicken Quesadillas on page 91. And how about Pancakes (page 31)?! No flour and no sugar. These are good! And the Truffle Cheese Cake Supreme (page 125) is good too. The Egg Soufflé (page 63) with sour cream, jack cheese, mushrooms and green onions is delicious for breakfast.

Don’t forget your good friend, www.Amazon.com when it comes to books! I buy “used” from them all the time, and save a ton of money. Many of the books listed in the “used” section are brand new! Each so-called “used” book is rated on its condition. Just click on the “New and Used from….” which lists the lowest amount the book is selling for and www.Amazom.com will take you to a page which shows all of the used copies of that book, their prices, the condition of each book, and where the bookseller is located. Often you can locate a very inexpensive copy of a book you really want, at a great price, and in like new or nearly new condition!

If www.Amazon.com doesn’t have what you want, when you want it, try www.ebay.com!

www.ebay.comalways offers a huge selection of Suzanne Somers’ products, including her cookbooks and SomerSweet. If you haven’t signed up on this site yet, all I can say is that it is the largest “shopping mall” in the world, and there is very little that is not offered there! The site will walk you in a user-friendly fashion through the sign-up process and you’ll be ready to buy before you know it. The trick is to sign up with www.ebay.com, and get all set ahead of time, then keep watching for what you want. Sooner or later, it is bound to be offered! If the price isn’t what you’d hoped for, keep watching! www.ebay.com is like watching a mouse hole. Patience is rewarded! Watch the mouse hole until the right sized mouse appears and pounce! If you don’t see what you want, don’t worry, your registration won’t cost you a cent!

If you would like to lose weight, or regain good health, SomerSizing is one of the healthier ,saner and more delicious ways to go about it. I use”SomerSizing” recipes simply because they taste good.
