Hair Bow, Hair Trend, Permed Hair

Looking for an easy fall hairstyle? Watch out, ponytails are going to be a hot fashion trend for 2009. Ponytails are not only easy to create, but are very fashionable, trendy and can be made on almost any hair length. If you think about it, back ponytail hairstyles have always been quite popular, especially back in the 80s with the high ponytail and straight bangs. Ponytails are suitable for any age, any face shape and any hair texture.

Being a beautician, I love the fact that ponytails can be messy, sexy, creative, sleek, knotted, frizzy, braided, casual, romantic, sporty or even seductive looking. Ponytail hairstyles are great for anyone who is short on time, school, wedding, prom, or for everyday use. Knowing that ponytails will be a hot hair trend this fall 2009, I will list some of my favorite ponytail hairstyles and how to create them.

Sleek ponytail, 80’s ponytail, frizzy ponytail, topknot ponytail, pigtails, side ponytail, braided ponytail, wrap ponytail, twisted ponytail, doubled ponytail, hump ponytail, crown ponytail, topsy tail ponytail, stacked ponytail, behind the ear ponytail, puff ponytail, and so many more. There are thousands of ways to create a ponytail, just choose which ones fit your style.

How to create an 80s ponytail

Creating an 80’s ponytail style, you have a variety of styles to choose. You may pick the high ponytail, high side ponytail, or frizzy ponytail. To do any three of these ponytail styles you will need a comb, ponytail holder, clean hair (unless your hair is too soft and thin, then make it a little dirty using products), hairspray, and a brush.

High ponytail- Start by making sure your hair is clean and knot free. Then take a brush and brush the hair up starting at the nape of your neck. When you get to the crown area of your head gather the hair tight and secure it with a ponytail holder. Place both hands onto the ponytail. Now take your second and third finger on each hand and separate the ponytail in the middle. Pull tight.

Frizzy ponytail- This style is great for anyone who has naturally curly or permed hair, however it can also be styled on straight hair as well. To create a frizzy ponytail style you will need scrunching gel, crimper, brush, ponytail holder, and teasing. For this style, your hair should be somewhat dirty to get a fuller and frizzy look. Take a brush, start at the top of your head, and brush the hair all the way down to the nape of your neck. Secure with a ponytail holder, hair bow, or hair ribbon. Now grab small thin sections from the ponytail and crimp them with the hair crimper. Allow the hair to cool off for 5 minutes. Spray a scrunching gel onto the ponytail such as (Aussie scrunch spray) Now scrunch your hair with your fingers. Add some teasing and just let it go.

How to create a wrap ponytail

A wrap ponytail can be very smooth and sleek, or messy and sexy. If you have very long hair, a wrap ponytail can be very exquisite looking, especially when you wrap a few hair strands around the base of the ponytail. To create a wrap ponytail you will need short to long hair, comb, bobby pins (or barrette), and a gel or mousse.

You can have your wrap ponytail style at the nape of your neck, side of your neck, on top of crown area, or on the lower neck area. Brush your hair to the desired area. For instance, for the nape of your neck start brushing your hair from the top of your head down towards the nape of your neck. Secure with a ponytail holder. Now grab a long small or thick section of hair and start wrapping it around the base of the ponytail to cover up the ponytail holder. Once you get to the end of that hair strand secure underneath with a bobby pin. Make sure to match the bobby pin color with your hair color so it all blends in together.
