Jerry’s Famous Deli in Miami on South Beach

Breakfast Pizza, Party Platters

While staying in Miami South Beach our hotel was located next to a deli that had a bright, bold, red sign, Jerry’s famous deli. We looked at the outside menu and for Miami, the prices looked great.

There was outdoor seating on the sidewalk, but with so many people walking by, we decided to eat inside. There were plenty of host/hostesses to greet us and we were offered a table, to sit at the bar, or a booth. We opted for a booth. We were seated and given huge menus to choose from. Glasses of water and a dish of pickles and green tomatoes were placed on the table. I have never eaten green tomatoes so that was a new experience for me. We ordered decaf coffee, and then looked at the menu. I am telling you, we changed our minds so many times, because each time we read the next section, something better came to mind. Our server came back a couple of times before we had made a choice.

I asked about the L.A. Platters. They were served with salad and fresh fruit. I was told it would be melon, strawberries, grapes, etc. It sounded just perfect for me and Len had looked for chicken, because of his health problems. I turned the page and saw, Cajun Chicken Pizza. Len loves any Cajun food, and pizza, he only gets every 6 months or so, so he ordered it.

I got a refill on my coffee while we were chatting. Our server checked on us several times, telling us our food would be up shortly.

When it came out, I wondered who would be joining our party. My plate was oval, around 12 inches long. There were 7 huge pieces of beef in the middle. On one side a lovely crisp salad, the other side an array of fresh fruit. I told Len that I would be 2 hours eating it all. Len pizza was the size of a medium one. Normally it would have been enough for two, but as we were on holiday Len managed to eat the whole thing. He told me it tasted great. I ate my roast beef and salad. I had ordered two dressings so I could dip my salad in them. I had to give up on the salad, but enjoyed my fruit andI ate it in place of a dessert. The coffee kept flowing all the time.

I walked the length of the restaurant and up the stairs passing a wall of photographs of the movie stars. The restrooms were behind these and were really clean. There was plenty of hot water, soap, and towels. Walking back to the booth I noticed the huge bar area to one side. The bakery was at the front of this building, which had really high ceilings with loads of lights. Posters were on the side walls and plenty of television sets for every one to view. The whole place was spotlessly clean.

When we got back to the booths, Len and I joined a couple of English ladies, at their table to finish our coffee. This really ended a perfect meal. The total, including the service charge of 15% was $32. What a bargain. My meal was $11.50 and Len’s was $10.50. Excellent value for the money.
