Jason’s Deli Restaurant Chain Review

Chicken Chili, Jason's Deli, Odessa

I was very happy when Jason’s Deli came to Odessa, Texas. I am a bit of a health nut recently, trying to eat healthier, better, more natural foods. Unfortunately for me, in Odessa, beer and steak and potatoes are the staples. If it’s not steak, it’s probably deep fried. Everything in Odessa can be fried, it seems, including vegetables. Fried green beans, fried zuchinni, fried squash… seems not to be quite so healthy when it’s breaded and thrown in grease.

Jason’s Deli makes a commitment in their chain restaurants to never use any high fructose corn syrup. You can read my article about HFCS to understand why I have an aversion to this stuff. They also use all natural ingredients and wherever possible, they use organic foods.

While the prices at Jason’s Deli are a little high for what they are offering compared to traditional restaurants offering similar fare, the quality of their foods is simply better, and it’s worth the extra money, in my opinion.

Jason’s Deli Locations

Jason’s Deli was proudly started in Beaumont, Texas, and thus has it’s roots in the great State of Texas. The chain quickly grew to over 200 restaurants and now spans over 25 different states, so even non-Texans can eat healthier with Jason’s Deli.

Jason’s Deli Menu

Jason’s Deli’s menu has lighthearted fare. While they do offer some hot dishes, the majority of their menu selections are deli style sandwiches, sandwich meal deals, salads, pasta, or HFCS-free desserts.

Recently, Jason’s Deli has added some hot meal plates to their menu, but these vary by location. Not all Jason’s Deli restaurants offer the hot meals.

If you like soup and chili, the hot soups and varieties of chili, made with all natural ingredients and topped with cheddar cheese and fresh purple onion if you choose, are absolutely fantastic.

Jason’s Deli Consistency

I have eaten at Jason’s Deli locations in Webster, Midland, Odessa, Clearlake, and Austin, Texas. Each of the locations served relatively the same food with the same quality ingredients and taste. Sometimes, chain restaurants are not consistent with the quality of the food from one location to another, but it seems Jason’s Deli does a great job with training staff to make foods consistently well at all locations.

Every location I’ve visited has had an all-you-care-to-eat salad bar of organic vegetable offerings too.

Jason’s Deli Chili – To Die For!

The southwest chicken chili or the traditional chili both are must-trys if you like chili. The price is a bit steep at $18.00 for a family serving of it, but it’s really good. If you’re wanting something quick and easy for dinner for your family that is healthy and nutritious, order the family order of either of these chilis and add an order of the mini-corn muffins. The family will be happy, indeed!

Jason’s Deli Favorite Order

My favorite order from Jason’s Deli is the California club box sandwich with organic carrots and lite ranch dressing, with a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie for dessert. If you order during lunch, you can get the organic potato chips, made with nothing but potatoes, oil and natural salt–they are quite yummy! If you’d like, and sometimes I do, you can substitute the organic baby carrots for a fruit cup. The fruit cup includes one or two large strawberries, a couple of slices of pineapple, some cantaloupe, a honeydew wedge, and a few grapes, all with a special yogurt blended fruit dip.

Jason’s Deli Calories & Health

Jason’s Deli has an online nutritional information downloadable for all to see exactly how many calories and what ingredients go into the foods on their menu. You’ll be amazed how much food you can eat with fewer calories but feel so much fuller.

It’s hard to explain to people who aren’t used to eating organic and natural foods how much better food tastes once you get used to knocking the junk out of your diet, but Jason’s is a good way to see just how good natural foods can taste.

Jason’s Deli Delivers

Almost all the Jason’s Delis deliver! Yes, deliver! While you do need to order quite a ways in advance (about an hour), they have excellent drivers who are courteous. When my friend was in the hospital, they even delivered to us at the hospital when she was checked in too late to get dinner, but we hadn’t eaten that day, and they brought it right up to the hospital room! You can even order and pay online if you want to.

Jason’s Deli Conclusion

If you’re wanting to try organic, healthy foods as an alternative to ordinary fast food, Jason’s is a great place to do this. They cater to large groups and corporate meetings too. They even have breakfast at a lot of locations. You can check their website at the link below to see if there is a Jason’s Deli in your area.
