Why to Work Out at Gold’s Gym in Hagerstown, MD

Fitness Class, Fitness Classes, gold's gym, Hagerstown, Hagerstown Md

The new Gold’s Gym in Hagerstown, MD is a great place to go to work out, for more reasons than one. I recommend it for anyone wishing to change their unhealthy lifestyle into one that is physically fit.

Gold’s Gym in Hagerstown, MD is located on Northern Avenue, in the North End of town. The gym used to be on Pennsylvania Avenue near Maugan’s Avenue, but approximately two years ago they moved. As a result of this move, the gym now has more to offer.

What I like about Gold’s Gym in Hagerstown, MD:

1. Cinema room. My favorite thing about Gold’s Gym in Hagerstown, MD is the cinema room. This is a room dedicated to playing movies all day while you work out. When you walk into the room, you enter a dimly lit setting, with three rows of exercise equipment. One row has cycles, one row has stairmasters, and the back row has tread mills. Starting when the gym opens each morning, one movie is played over and over throughout the course of the day. The movie changes each day, and they post a schedule each week so you can find out what is showing. The movies are always recent video releases. This feature alone is to me a reason to join the gym. I love movies, and if I work out while I watch one I am getting a dual benefit, not to mention alleviating couch potato syndrome. You could switch from machine to machine over the course of the movie. Or, you could walk for ten minutes, then run for ten minutes, etc. on the tread mill throughout the movie.

2. Fitness classes. I greatly enjoy the fitness classes at Gold’s Gym in Hagerstown, MD. The instructors are all well trained and very motivating. Most of them are very friendly and willing to help you if you have trouble getting started in a new class. The people who take the classes also are nice. Everyone seems to get to know each other and it’s like being a member of a team working towards physical fitness. Generally, many of the fitness classes are dominated by women, but guys join in occasionally.

The best class is BODY PUMP. In this class, you will work out all parts of your body! For part of the class, you will be standing up with a bar with dumbbells doing squats, etc. Then, you will lie on your back and lift the bar with weights attached. A small amount of time is spent doing situps with weights and stretching.

I also enjoy the PILATES MAT class. You do exercises on the floor, and use your mind to control your muscles. The class is geared at a longer and leaner you.

A new class has been added called BODY JAM. This class is a cardio-workout. You experience the latest dance moves to hip music.

I don’t particularly care for the cycling classes, but they do fill up quickly! In these classes, you are guided through your cycling experience. I find these a bit mundane and something I could do just as well on my own. It can help to motivate you if you are working beside others, so I would recommend trying it before dismissing it!

3. Payment options. One other thing I like is the payment schedule. I don’t come in very often, so I like to pay as I go. This means that whenever I visit, I pay $10 to work out that day. This way, I don’t waste any money spent on a membership. If you do join, they give you the option to pay monthly, and to commit to three months, six months, or a year. The best value is the year, because you pay less per month.

4. Other. What else do I like about Gold’s Gym in Hagerstown, MD? There is a separate fitness area for women only, with exercise equipment and bikes. I like this idea, for women who may be a bit shy working out beside men or just having an area of their own. (To be really fair, though, I guess there should also be an area like this for men.)

Gold’s Gym in Hagerstown, MD also has a great amount of fitness equipment over a large area. Even when the place is packed, there is still enough equipment for everyone. The busiest times seem to be from about 4 pm to 7 pm, as people are leaving work, and in the mornings before work. On the weekends, the gym can be busy all day. If you care to come when there are not so many people, try late hours, such as from 8 to 10 pm each evening, or 7 to 8 pm on Sunday.

Personal training is available, which gives you the ability to get personalized attention for your needs. This costs extra, but can be worth it especially if you don’t know where to start or aren’t sure what workout regime will be best for you.

Gold’s Gym in Hagerstown, MD is definitely the place to be. It’s a good place to meet new friends and hang out with old ones. You will hardly ever find the place empty. Every time I drive by, the parking lot seems to be packed with cars!

I greatly enjoy Gold’s Gym in Hagerstown, MD. However, every place can be better…

Recommendations for Improvement:

1. Pool. I would like to see a pool added at some point. This gives many more options for total fitness. Working out in a pool stresses the joints of the body less than running on a tread mill, for instance.

2. Indoor track. I would like to see an indoor track. In Hagerstown, there is only one fitness center that has any sort of indoor track. The Clarion Hotel has a fitness center, and the track consists of the second floor of the hotel circling the pool area. The YMCA at its previous location had an indoor track, but there isn’t one at the new address. A lot of people like to run, and many prefer a track to a treadmill. I think it would bring some additional business and offer diversity.

3. Fitness classes on the weekends. I like the fact that there is finally a later evening fitness class on Thursday evenings at 7:30 pm. However, I would like to see more classes offered on the weekend. Saturday and Sunday afternoons would be a great time to have a fitness class in my opinion, because everyone is off work.
