The variety of cereals without gluten being sold continues to increase. Sadly, though, the cost of gluten-free cereals stays consistently exorbitant in contrast to the more common types of breakfast foods, so you may wish to change your morning meal occasionally rather than eating cereal daily. In order to get the most cost-effective brands, make sure you scan the store shelves both locally and online. Once you discover a kind you enjoy, consider purchasing it in large quantities to economize.

Nature’s Path EnviroKids Amazon Frosted Flakes

This brand is quite sugary but is highly popular for snacking urges. Gorilla Munch was among the original gluten-free cereals I have tried, and is both tasty and habit-forming. Free of gluten and casein, vegetarian, and low in sodium, it has only 9 g of sugar per serving.

Nature’s Path Corn Flakes (Fruit Juice Sweetened)

I make sure to keep several boxes of this cereal on hand, since, aside from eating it every morning I use these corn flakes by breaking them up whenever a recipe requires bread crumbs. Gluten- and casein-free, vegetarian-friendly, low fat, with just 3 g of sugar per serving. (Nature’s Path makes honey-sweetened corn flakes, too.)

Health Valley Organic Rice Crunch-Ems

While I try to forego sugar-laden breakfast foods, I do pick up EnviroKids Amazon Frosted Flakes for a quick snack if my sweet-tooth makes demands. Toss a handful into a plastic lunch bag to bring to work or school between meals. No gluten or casein, vegetarian, low-salt, with 6 grams of sugar in a serving.

Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free Mighty Tasty Hot Cereal

During my beginning years going without gluten, hot cereals on icy winter mornings were just a fond memory – until I found Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free Mighty Tasty Hot Cereal at a nearby Whole Foods Market. Attracted by the cereal’s name, I decided to sample some, and fell for it. Often I add a handful of raisins during the cooking process. Gluten- and casein-free, whole grain, vegetarian, low in sodium, 0 g of sugar per serving.

Erewhon Crispy Brown Rice Cereal with Mixed Berries

This cereal alleges to contain crisped rice with a mixture of strawberries, blueberries and raspberries added. I regret to inform that, despite being moderately sweet with pleasing crispiness, the freeze-dried berries were a major letdown. The strawberries were a fraction of the size of those in the Strawberry Crisp cereal, the blueberries were abundant but had no taste whatsoever, and the raspberries went undetected until I saw them listed in the ingredients. Altogether, the taste is adequate, but I had expected this product to compete with the Strawberry Crisp cereal which I’ve always favored so much.

Nature’s Path EnviroKids Gorilla Munch

I first found these Rice Chex-doubles quite some time prior to the the removal of gluten from the first version by General Mills. I have tried the gluten-free Rice Chex, which aren’t bad, but having gotten used to the Health Valley Organic Rice Crunch-Ems, they’ve become my preference. Without gluten or casein, vegetarian, low-fat and a mere 2 g of sugar per serving.
