Malt-O-Meal Brand VS Other Leading Cereals

Frosted Flakes, Malt, Trix

Malt-O-Meal cereals have long been considered the “cheap” or “off brand” cereals, and to an extent that’s what they are. Malt-O-Meal cereals mimic big name brand cereals like Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cocoa Pebbles, Frosted Flaks among others, but just how different are they?

Malt-O-Meal cereals taste almost exactly the same as most name brand cereals, only they cost much less. Malt-O-Meal cereals use many of the same high quality ingredients as name brand cereals and offer the same quality. The difference in taste is little to none, in fact the main difference is in the packaging. Malt-O-Meal Cereals come in bags, while name brand cereals come in boxes. The only taste difference between cereals is that Malt-O-Meal cereals seem to use more sugar, and their fruit flavors are a bit stronger then those in Trix, Fruit Loops and Fruity Pebbles.

Malt-O-Meal cereal is about a dollar or more cheaper then other brands of cereal, and with cereal costs on the rise, paying four and five dollars for a box of cereal, every dollar you save counts. Also with Malt-O-Meal brand cereals you get about 30% more cereal then with traditional boxed cereal. This means that for more then a dollar less then a major name brand cereal you get the same great tasting product, plus 30% more of it. Weather you have a large family or enjoy cereal by yourself, either way you look at it Malt-O-Meal cereals just off a more economical solution to breakfast. Malt-O-Meal also offers hot cereals as well and again they taste just as great as the leading brands.

Malt-O-Meal cereals are great, but they do have some drawbacks as compared to a few major leading brands. Malt-O-Meals “Fruit Rings” as compared to Fruit Loops shows a definite difference. Fruit Loops has a very mild fruit taste that works very well with the cereal, while Fruit Rings has an overabundance if fruity flavor that tends to overpower the cereal. This is also true with a comparison between Fruit Flavored Dino Bits and Fruity Pebbles, the artificial fruit flavor is just too strong in the Malt-O-Meal brand.

Malt-O-Meal on the other hand does have some cereals that taste better then those offered by leading brands. Dino Bits is Malt-O-Meals take on Cocoa Pebbles, and malt-O-Meal wins my vote. Any of Malt-O-Meals chocolaty flavored cereals seem to have a much more vibrant flavor and really taste great. Also we all know one of the best parts of eating cereal is drinking the milk afterwards, I guess it’s the kid in us, well Malt-O-Meal’s chocolate cereals will turn you milk into a kind of chocolate that you have never tasted before. Like Nestle Quick on steroids, Malt-O-Meal cereal will be a treat even after the cereal is gone.

The whole grain cereals that have no major flavors added seem to taste just as good as those offered by leading companies. Malt-O-Meal’s variation of Frosted Flakes taste just like them, and actually have more frosted coverage then their leading competitor. The Frosted Squares, a Frosted Mini-Wheat variation are no different then their counterparts, they look, taste, and have the same value as one another.

Overall Malt-O Meal brand foods are something that each and every consumer should take into consideration. Their food is almost no different then leading name brands, taste the same, comes in more economic sizes, and cost more the a dollar less. Their chocolate cereals taste better then most other brands, but their fruity flavored cereals leave a little bit to be desired, and their frosted cereals show no difference between them and their counterparts. All this put together makes Malt-O-Meal cereals a great alternative to other expensive cereals on the market.
