Tall Growing Flowers for Privacy

Asters, Growing Flowers

Flowers are great for more than just adding color and beauty to a yard. Tall growing varieties can also add privacy. A floral fence is far less expensive than a privacy fence. Consider these tall growing flowers, and add privacy to a patio, deck, front porch, or any outdoor sitting area. They require very little maintenance, and they will add interest and appeal to an outdoor area designed for relaxation.

Tall Growing Tartarian and New England Asters

One of the most striking tall growing flowers is the aster. They grow best in zones four to eight, and they are tolerant of poor soil. The dainty fringed blooms are available in various shades of white, pink, blue, purple, and red. Choose these flowers for areas that receive full sun most of the day.

Asters are available in countless varieties, but they are not all tall growing flowers. The Tartarian cultivar is ideal when looking for tall growing plants for privacy because they can reach heights of seven feet. New England asters are also a good choice when seeking tall growing flowers. They reach heights of four feet, and they are perfect for bordering an outdoor sitting area.

Tall growing asters will bloom from the later weeks of summer and through the months of fall. Be sure to read the information included with the plants to make certain they are a tall growing variety. Some cultivars only reach a height of about two feet, and although they are lovely they do not make a good privacy screen or backdrop for other types of tall growing foliage.

I grew soft pink New England asters around a deck, and the blooms were absolutely beautiful. They made a fantastic flowering privacy wall that blocked the view of neighbors. The flowers were adorned with narrow petals that looked like delicate fringe. Asters are my top choice for adding privacy around a deck, porch, patio, or any open outdoor area that receives full sun, but many more flowers can be used to create a natural barrier, backdrop, or privacy hedge.

Tall Growing Spider Flowers to Border a Yard

Another fantastic choice when looking for tall growing flowers is the spider flower. They can reach heights of six feet, and the spider-like blooms are available in beautiful shades of rose, light crimson, purple, and white. Although these tall growing flowers thrive in full sun, they can also be planted in partially shaded areas.

Many people use these flowers instead of hedges, and since each plant can grow to widths of three feet, they nicely fill in the gaps. Best of all, these lovely flowers require very little care, and they will beautifully shield a yard from prying eyes. The foliage smells similar to tomato plants, and for this reason they are not a good choice directly around a sitting area, but they are an excellent yard border. These tall growing flowers are annuals, but they will reseed themselves and come back year after year.

Tall Growing Sunflowers

Another excellent choice when looking for tall growing flowers is the ever-popular sunflower. Sunflowers are available in many different varieties, colors, and heights. When planted in groups they make a lovely privacy wall that works well in just about any sunlit location.

For tall growing flowers that will tower over every other plant, buy mammoth sunflower seeds. The stalks and the foliage will create a natural privacy fence. Although these flowers are annuals, the seeds are cheap and readily available, and they can be replanted each year. They can even be combined with one or more of the aforementioned tall growing flowers for an interesting and highly colorful display.
