The Muppet Show: The 10 Best Characters

Gonzo, Muppet, Muppet Show, The Muppet Show

In another article I did the unthinkable and actually said something bad about one of the most beloved television shows of all-time, the Muppet Show. Now I will try and make it up to the Muppet Show by saying something good. There are some horrible characters in the Muppet Show but fortunately there are also some great ones as well. These are the 10 best characters in the Muppet Show.

10. Crazy Harry
I’m a guy. It doesn’t matter if I’m watching a big budget action movie or a children’s television show. Anything can be improved with explosions. Crazy Harry was the character in the Muppet Show that provided explosions with his bombs. Am I crazy for liking a guy who is most known for having bombs all the time? Yeah, probably.

9. Animal
When I was a wee lad Animal was probably my favorite character from the Muppet Show. As I’ve grown up I’ve needed more substance than Animal, but since he was my first favorite he still has to be on the list.

8. Sweetums
Many Muppets fans might not recognize Sweetums by his name but I’m sure everyone knows who he is. Sweetums is the very large brown hairy monster. Sweetums might be the biggest Muppet you’ve seen. There is actually one Muppet larger than him but he only appears a few times.

7. Beaker
As I said in my article about the 10 Worst Muppet Show Characters, sidekicks are usually better than their counterpart. Beaker was hilarious. Beaker was very cowardly but made some priceless facial expressions.

6. Rowlf
Most of the time I couldn’t stand the music on the Muppet Show. It was pretty boring and bland. But put Rowlf behind the piano and I’ll gladly watch.

5. Fozzie Bear
During one phase as a kid I wanted to be a stand up comedian because of Fozzie the Bear. But I didn’t want to be just any stand up comedian. I wanted to be a bad one like Fozzie the Bear. If you think good stand up comedians don’t get paid well, then you should see the pay check of a bad stand up comedian.

4. Swedish Chef
I don’t know what it is that I like about the Swedish Chef. Maybe I just like characters that you can’t understand, like Beaker, because at least they aren’t saying something stupid or annoying.

3. Mahna Mahna and the Snowths
My favorite skit of all-time on the Muppet Show was the Mahna Mahna song sung by Mahna Mahna and the Snowths. Mahna Mahna was actually the very first skit on the very first episode though so technically it was all downhill from there.

2. Gonzo
After my bad stand up comedian phase I decided Gonzo was my favorite character on the Muppet Show now. So I decided to be what Gonzo is. The problem is I’m not really sure what Gonzo is other than really strange. So I practiced being strange and 20 or so years later I’m still good at it.

1. Statler and Waldorf
Back in the day I like many of the Muppets because they were cute or furry or funny or not very funny (which made them funny) but as I’ve grown and become cynical and pessimistic I’ve learned that the best way to live life is to insult and make fun of people. Statler and Waldorf, you are my heroes.
