Sleep Apnea Pillow Recommendations

Brookstone, Natural Therapy, Stop Snoring

As a person with mild sleep apnea myself, I know the difficulties one can have in finding a product that actually reduces your snoring. There are products out there from sprays to nasal strips, to sleep pillows. This is a review of a few sleep pillows out there designed to help reduce snoring due to the effects of sleep apnea.

Sona Pillow:

Brookstone has a patented Sona Pillow which is designed to stop snoring and mild sleep apnea. It retails for $129 and can be found online at Brookstone.com and in Brookstone stores around the nation. There are over 400 positive reviews from satisfied customers on the Brookstone site. The Sona Pillow is designed to be used as you sleep on your side to open the airways and slightly open your jaw. Many customers have praised the Sona Pillow for its ability to greatly reduce or stop their partner’s snoring. The users of the pillow say they are grateful for a deeper night’s rest and less strain on their body as they sleep. The pillow is hypoallergenic and comes with a free pillowcase with purchase.

I tested this pillow out at Brookstone. I didn’t find it too comfortable. I felt as though my face was caved into the pillow. Maybe it’s because I enjoy a more firmer pillow to support my head but this pillow wasn’t for me. I am also a stomach sleeper and this pillow is designed for side sleepers.

Side Sleeper Delight:

The Side Sleeper Delight is designed to help eliminate or reduce snoring and help treat mild sleep apnea. It promises the discontinuation of sprays, nasal sprays, pills and other treatments sold to help reduce snoring. Studies have shown this can help reduce sleep apnea by 50%. This patent-pending, natural therapy pillow uses the power of gravity to open the sleeper’s passageways. Prices range from $179-$199.

Personally this seems a bit overboard in price for a sleep apnea pillow. At least the Sona Pillow is cheaper and comes from a trusted brand: Brookstone. If you are a side sleeper, this pillow might really help you. However, if you sleep on your back or stomach, it wouldn’t be as effective.

Pajama Pillow:

The purpose of this pillow is to make sure sleepers do not sleep on their backs. Sleeping on your back means air is being restricted from your airways which, in turn, causes snoring to occur. The pajama pillow has a pillow sewn on the back of the pajama to keep you always sleeping on your side. These sell for $59 which is cheaper than other apnea pillows out there. If your snoring comes from sleeping on your back, then this pillow just might do the trick. However, if you’re like me and sleeping on your side still causes you to snore, then this pillow is worthless. I’ve tried something almost exactly similar to this product and it didn’t do anything to improve my mild sleep apnea. However, a family member who has used this trick says it is extremely helpful.

Of the three products, I most recommend the pillow from Brookstone. While I do not enjoy it, there are plenty of reviews that believe otherwise. It might just be the pillow that helps improve your health. If you are a back sleeper, then you would benefit most from the Pajama Pillow.
