Program – Effective January 2009, anyone who wishes to participate in a YMCA program must have either a family membership or a program membership, with some exceptions that are noted in specific program areas. Program membership allows program participation only during scheduled times and days and does not provide access to the facility.

Joiner’s Fee
The joiner fee is charged to new members to build a pool of funds to be used for major capital or improvement expenses. It is the new member’s commitment to the future of the YMCA. Any member whose membership lapses for more than 60 days will be considered a new member and be charged a joiner fee accordingly.

Financial Assistance
It is the goal of the YMCA to provide services for any person who desires to participate and understands the benefits of the YMCA, regardless of ability to pay the standard membership or program fee. Those not able to pay the fee may be awarded financial assistance based on the individual need and the ability of the YMCA to fund the subsidy.

Review: Using a guest pass I was welcomed to the Garland YMCA facility with a warm greeting from the front desk attendant. The large windows around the building allowed for lots of natural light to flood my surroundings that exposed a clean environment. To my left where seniors exercising on cardio machines, to my right were the empty free weight rooms, and straight ahead was a large squash room. The weight room was a decent size with a variety of different weights to use. The weight room had excellent air conditioning and a near by water fountain so remaining hydrated and cool is not a problem. I am glad to have brought my MP3 player as there was no music playing in the entire building. I was told this was due to not interrupt the yoga, Pilate’s, and Zumba fitness classes held daily. Since there was a senior cardio class at my time of attendance, I decided to swim in one of Garland YMCA’s two large pools. The outdoor pool was surprisingly clean as it was early in Spring with temperatures remaining too cool for much use. After my workout I went to the locker room to use their clean showers and retrieve my belongings and left the facility with an overall pleasant experience. I was aware that I did not take advantage of all the facility offers since most of the activity occurs during fitness classes and sports activities. After learning about the swimming lessons and their affordability from a friendly employee, I plan on enrolling my child to attend the classes this summer.
