Review of Lysol Cling Toilet Bowl Cleaner

Child Proof, Lysol, Septic Tanks

Having a home daycare, keeping my bathroom clean (especially the toilet), can sometimes be a challenge. It takes work every day to keep it smelling fresh, and Lysol Cling helps me keep the toilet bowl nice and clean.

Lysol Cling

The plastic bottle contains 24 ounces, and the neck of the bottle is angled so that I can squirt the cleaning solution under the rim. This is the hardest part of the bowl for me to clean. Lysol Cling lives up to it’s name. The gel like formula is extremely thick, which allows it to remain on the porcelain bowl. Because the gel is colored, you can see exactly where you are putting it, and put it exactly where you want it. I’ve been married for 27 years, and have tried my fair share of products to clean my toilet, but Lysol Cling actually sticks better than any others I have used.

It is available in several different scents: Summer Fresh, Country Scent, and Spring Waterfall Scent. I like the Country Scent the best, but they all work well and smell nice.

The company claims that Lysol Cling will:

* Clean, disinfect and deodorize *
* Leave a clean fresh scent *
* Won’t harm septic tanks or plumbing *

The fact that Lysol claims this will not hurt septic tanks or plumbing helped sway my decision to purchase this product. We have a fairly new septic system, and after the expense of putting it in, I don’t want to use any products that will harm the bacteria in our leech field. (Many cleaners that contain chlorine or antibacterial agents can hurt septic systems.) According to the Lysol website, “the degradability and dilution factors are such that the product does not adversely effect the bacterial action of the septic system”. The cleaner is better for the environment because it contains no phosphates.

If you have little ones in your home, you know how important it is to have child proof caps, especially on your cleaning products. The cap on Lysol Cling is definitely child proof. Sometimes I have a hard time getting it open myself! The trick is to squeeze the white plastic top together, push it down, then turn it counter-clockwise. If you do all that properly, the cap will pop up and you can then squeeze the cleaner from the 1/4″ diameter hole in the cap. The cap is not removeable.

Per the cleaning directions, I pre-clean my toilet bowl by scrubbing it with my toilet brush and flushing. Then use about 4 ounces of cleaner and allow it to sit there on the bowl for at least 10 minutes before cleaning. After 10 minutes (or even several hours), the cleaner will still be clinging to the bowl! It really is amazing.

I’ve used those toilet bowl cleaners that are installed in the water tank, the ones that turn your water blue. They work well, but I’ve had a real problem with them dissolving the metal mechanism that connects to the handle and allows me to flush. I’d much rather use a product like Lysol Cling and not worry about replacing hardware every few months. Lysol Cling cannot be combined with any cleaners that contain chlorine, this produces a toxic environment and can make you very sick.

I give my toilet bowl a good cleaning several times a week with Lysol Cling. In between cleanings I wipe it down with Lysol Wipes. One bottle of Lysol Cling will last about a month and a half, so it’s well worth the cost of only $3.50! The cleaner makes my job much easier, I scrub less, and used on a regular basis it keeps my toilet bowl sparkling clean.
