Review: Detour Lean Muscle Protein Bar

Lean Manufacturing, Lean Muscle, Protein Bars

While Detour Protein bars already have a high reputation among serious athletes and bodybuilders, the Detour Lean Muscle Bar is definitely my favorite among those produced by Detour. This Detour Lean Muscle Bar review is based off of their Cookie Dough Caramel Crisp flavor.

Detour Lean Muscle Bar Review – Taste/Texture: 9/10

The only reason I can’t give the Detour Lean Muscle Bar a ten for overall taste is because I’ve had two general taste experiences with the bar. On several occasions, I’ve had a Detour Lean Muscle Bar that was incredibly tasty and easy to chew. The general problem with protein bars is texture and “chewability”, and while I’ve had more Detour Lean Muscle Bars that were exceptionally easy to chew, I have also had Detour Lean Muscle Bars that are too chewy, making it tiresome on the jaws. Regardless, the cookie dough caramel flavor is quite good.

Detour Lean Muscle Bar Review – Nutrient Profile: 8/10

The Detour Lean Muscle Bar is 370 calorie protein bar that can be consumed pre-, intra-, and post-workout. It can also be used to supply protein in between whole-food meals. While the saturated fat (7g out of 12g total) may be too high for some individual preferences, keep in mind that certain levels of saturated fat are responsible for testosterone production and maintenance. The remainder of fat is made up of 2000mg of Omega-3s, polyunsaturated, and monounsaturated, all of which are healthy and should make up the majority of your fat intake. The Detour Lean Muscle Bar contains a solid 32g of protein, predominantly composed of several levels of fast-digesting whey protein, but also including slower-digesting casein and soy protein. Thus, the Detour Lean Muscle Bar is designed to supply a fast and intermediate supply of amino acids to muscles. The bar is relatively low in cholesterol (20mg) and sugar (3g), and it also contains a good serving of fiber (3g).

Detour Lean Muscle Bar Review – Cost: 7/10

I typically pay about $3.50-4.00 for the Detour Lean Muscle Bar. Basically, the bar is slightly above average or simply average in terms of cost.

Detour Lean Muscle Bar Review – Overall: 9/10

The Detour Lean Muscle Bar is definitely a high-quality, great-tasting protein bar. I would particularly recommend the bar for individuals who may have difficulty reaching daily protein intake recommendations (either .5g per pound of bodyweight, 1g per pound, 2g per pound, etc.). The Detour Lean Muscle Bar does have a moderate amount of fat, which may be undesirable for certain individuals. For instance, the bar is not intended to be used as a meal replacement. Rather, users looking to add lean muscle mass should consume the Detour Lean Muscle Bar in between meals or around workout times. I would personally using the Detour Lean Muscle bar pre-workout because of the different digesting rates of its protein, moderate amount of carbohydrates (33g), and fat to provide energy and fuel for your workout.
