Review: Amy’s All American Veggie Burger

amy's kitchen, Veggie

I love to have meatless meals whenever possible. When I saw Amy’s All American Veggie Burger on sale in the frozen aisle of my grocery store, I decided to try it. A few questions that went through my mind when I put the packet in my grocery cart were – will the frozen patties taste like the fresh ones? will they be easy to prepare? Here is my review on Amy’s All American Veggie Burger.

Price

Each packet of Amy’s All American Veggie Burger have four soy veggie patties with net wt. 10 0z. (284g). I purchased the frozen burger for $3.50 from my grocery store on sale but it usually sells around $6 – $6.50. This is roughly $1.50 – $1.75 per patty which I think is a bit expensive. I found Amy’s burger expensive than most other frozen veggie burgers.

Ingredients

Amy’s Veggie burger is made with organic vegetables and grains. It is certified organic by QAI. They have No GMOs; No bioengineered ingredients. The burgers are suitable for vegans as they do not contain any dairy products. Main ingredients of the veggie patty includes Onions, Mushrooms, Soy Protein Concentrate, Bulgur Wheat. They also include vegetables like Celery, Carrots, Tomatoes, Bell Peppers among others.

Nutrition Facts

I was happy to see that each patty had very low fat content. One patty is 120 cals, has 3g of saturated fat, and contains 10g of protein, 3g of dietary fiber and 390mg of sodium with no trans fat or cholesterol. It also had a good amount of vitamin A and C along with calcium and iron. It was a protein packed patty with a nice amount of fiber. It was definitely healthy.

Ease of preparation

The patties were pre-baked. You can prepare the patties any way you want without or with a very small amount of oil with no thawing required. Place the patty directly on a lightly oiled warm non-stick skillet for 3 – 4 minutes on each side or until hot all the way through. If you do not want to use any oil, heat in the microwave for a minute or in conventional oven at 400 degrees for 4-5 minutes on each side. Have a barbecue party? Oil each side lightly before putting on the grill.

Warning for people with food allergies

The patties contain wheat, soy and walnuts. This product is manufactured in a facility that processes foods containing wheat, milk, soy, tree nuts and seeds. Amy’s kitchen do not use any peanuts, fish, shellfish or eggs.

Satisfaction Rating

I would give them a 4 star. Low fat, protein packed, all organic ingredient patty which I could easily give to my three year old daughter. It was very easy to prepare. I just heated 2 patties in the microwave – one for me and one for my three year old daughter to make the burger. Even my 3 year old knows how to prepare a veggie burger. Thanks to Spongebob Squarepants. I made the burger using her instructions – bun, lettuce, patty, mustard sauce, cheese, tomato, pickle, ketchup and another bun on top. Taste was really great. The moist, chewy, non-greasy, veggie flavor is a stand-out. It is a huge burger and satisfies my tastebuds. Price wise I think it is a bit expensive but will add that it is worth every penny.

On their package they describe the patty as “These great tasting patties combine fresh organic grains and vegetables with protein and fiber rich soy (made from beans that have not been genetically engineered) specially prepared to create a firm, hearty burger that’s perfect for barbecuing or grilling.” I have to fully agree with them and happy to see Amy’s Kitchen offering delicious, organic, healthy vegetarian frozen meals. Amy’s kitchen offers six types of veggie burgers: All American Veggie Burger, Bistro Burger, California Veggie Burger, Cheddar veggie Burger, Quarter Pound Veggie Burger and Texas veggie Burger. I just can’t wait to try their other burgers.
