Boca Product Review: Meatless Chik’n Patties and Nuggets

Boca, Meatless

One thing that someone looks for when they choose a meatless imitation product is if it taste like the food item that it is imitating. Chicken is a popular meat and for those that do not eat it, but would like to find something that taste like it, there is an alternative. Boca meatless products offers “Chik’n” patties and nuggets.

Having not eaten actual chicken in a good 7 years I’ll be honest in saying I may not remember what chicken taste like, but swear that from what I can remember the chik’n patties and nuggets that Boca makes do taste like chicken. However, to ensure that my palette was correct I had a friend try them, someone who eats chicken and clearly knows what it taste like, and they said that it had a taste like chicken. Glancing at the Boca Original Meatless Chik’n Patties and Nuggets I discovered that although they had the same ingredients their nutrition facts differed slightly.
The patty has a bit more iron, slightly less calories, fat, sodium, carbohydrates and dietary fiber per serving than the nuggets. As for the taste they taste the same, and yes both taste a lot like chicken, but the texture is slightly off.

Now there is such a meatless product that Boca makes that taste like chicken, but it also is spicy. If you don’t eat chicken but want the taste of it, as well as a spicy kick to it then you should try a Boca Original Meatless Spicy Chik’n Patty. While it still tastes like chicken unless you like spicy foods, it is definitely spicy, then you probably want to stick with the Original Meatless Chik’n Patty by Boca. When you compare the Original Meatless Spicy Chik’n Patty by Boca to the Original Meatless Chik’n Patty by Boca the only main difference in the nutrition is that the Original Meatless Spicy Chik’n Patty has more sodium. As far as the ingredients of the two go the patty and breading are the same but the batter of the Original Meatless Chik’n Patty only contains water, wheat flour, yellow corn flour and salt while Original Meatless Spicy Chik’n Patty doesn’t contain yellow corn flour and has such other flavoring as onion powder, vinegar powder, dried garlic, paprika and citric acid.

These Boca products aren’t just for vegetarians or people wanting to eat less chicken, the formulas for all three of these meatless chicken products are vegan, something that I am happy about because although I am a vegetarian I am contemplating switching to being a vegan in the near future. Although I don’t mind giving up the taste of chicken I won’t be if I eat these Boca meatless products.
