RabbitAir BioGS Air Purifier Review

Pollen Allergies, Sinus Problems

The RabbitAir BioGS is a high quality air purifier. It features a certified HEPA filter. A HEPA filter is a necessity if you are considering an air filter to help with allergies. HEPA is an acronym for High Efficiency Particulate Air, and for a filter to earn this acronym it has to remove 99.97% of micro-particles in tests. In addition to a high quality filter, the BioGS has a number of features like different operative modes, a timer setting and a gas monitor as well as a dust indicator.

The RabbitAir BioGS is marketed as running extremely quiet. Considering the typical nose level of air purifiers this is a huge advantage. Many people want to use an air purifier in their bedroom at night but find it impossible due to the noise level. The quiet operation of the BioGS was the main reason why I decided to buy this particular model when I was shopping for an air purifier.

Another unique feature of the BioGS is a negative ion generator. Negative ions are tiny charged particles that will attract pollen and dust particles until they clump together and fall to the ground. This helps create fresher air as these particles can no longer be inhaled.

With the RabbitAir BioGS promising a wide range of features and long filter life I decided to pay the extra money for a high quality air filter. I was looking for air filters in an attempt to control persistent sinus problems that have interfered with my sleep for several decades. Since my symptoms were worse at night it was important that the unit could be run in my bedroom without waking up my family.

To start with the most important part of the review. The RabbitAir BioGS had an immediate and positive impact on my sinus problems. Just two days after moving the unit into my bedroom I slept through the night for the first time in many years. The constant congestion that would routinely wake me up at least twice every night got a lot better. I can honestly say that the BioGS was worth every penny of the step sticker price. Currently the air purifier is listed with a MSRP of $549.95. There are however several deals available for this product, it is sold for $329.95 at the RabbitAir website as this review is written. I was able to find an even better deal online and git my RabbitAir BioGS for under $250. If you are looking for an air purifier it definitely pays to do proper price checking.

The official BioGS product description claims that the unit can clean the air in rooms up to 600 square feet. My bedroom is substantially smaller than 600 square feet, yet the BioGS ran at full capacity for two full days before the air quality was acceptable. Admittedly, my bedroom is quite dusty, but the experience leads me to think that the 600 square feet claim is not based on real life environments. While the BioGS did an excellent job of purifying the air in my home, I am not convinced of the effectiveness in larger spaces.

Another issue I discovered quickly is that the unit is in fact very quiet as longs as the fan is running at the lower speeds it is a different story once the unit has to work harder. When the unit indicates the highest levels of dust or odors the highest fan speeds kick in. In this mode the unit is far from noiseless. In the end the noise was not loud enough to interrupt my sleep, but there is a distinct difference from the virtually silent operation of the unit on lower dust levels.

Another advertised feature that I never found much use for was the negative ion generator. The sales pitch promised mountain like air quality, but in reality I could not notice any difference in the air quality with the negative ion generator turned on or off. For my purpose this had minimal impact. I needed an air filter, not a negative ion generator and the BioGS did a fantastic job at that. Anyone who are particularly interested in negative ion generation should however consider a designated negative ion generator. The RabbitAir unit did not impress in this field.

The amazing benefits to my health that I have enjoyed since buying this product would make it worth while even if operating it would be extremely complicated. Luckily, the BioGS is the exact opposite. After some initial fumbling with the filters and getting them installed the right way, operating the air purifier was extremely easy. In fact, for my use I can operate the unit with one single button. The unit comes with a remote control, but I have found that to not be needed.

With a 5 year warranty, very low annual filter replacement costs and extremely efficient air filtering I recommend the RabbitAir BioGS to anyone who are suffering from dust or pollen allergies. The high price is reflected in the excellent quality of this product. I would have been completely satisfied with the unit at it’s full MSRP, but at the price I got it I consider it one of the best purchases I have ever made.
