Product Review – Dr. Miracles Hair Relaxer Kit

Relaxed Hair, Relaxers

Even though it’s not a great habit I tend to try different relaxers occasionally because I’m always on the lookout for a better product. Even though I’ve been a big fan of Profectiv’s Hair Relaxing System for around two years I wanted to see if I could find a relaxing system that would be even less damaging than it. I decided to try Dr. Miracle’s Hair Relaxing Kit after trying the company’s Temple & Nape Gro Balm because I knew that the company was all about minimizing damage, dryness, and breakage.

The Dr. Miracle’s Hair Relaxing Kit comes in a fairly simple cardboard box that contains with the basics of all relaxing systems, a no-lye relaxer cream, an activator, a color activated neutralizing shampoo, gloves, mixing stick, and directions. The kit also comes with protective hair gel and Dr Miracle’s Relaxed Hair Potion which is basically a leave-in conditioner that stimulates the scalp to promote hair growth.

After mixing the activator and relaxer base together the first thing I noticed about this relaxer was the lack of an odor from mixing the chemicals (the majority of relaxers smell like rotten eggs after they’ve been activated). After about 15 minutes I’d applied the relaxer and smoothed my new-growth, I noticed that my scalp wasn’t burning, tingling or even feeling the least bit irritated at all. It was amazing.

After shampooing the relaxer out and applying the Relaxed Hair Potion, I realized that the relaxer hadn’t straightened my roots as well as other relaxers do. I don’t like my roots to be bone straight after I relax my hair, but I do like most of the kinks and curls to be straightened so that I won’t have to deal with lots of detangling and the Dr. Miracles Hair Regular Hair Relaxer Kit just didn’t do that for me.

My roots only got about 50% straighter with this relaxer and when I started to style and blow-dry my hair it was almost as if I hadn’t gotten one at all. I had to spend about thirty minutes detangling my hair, and then another hour and a half straightening my hair with the heat from the blow-dryer. The main reason why I relax my hair in the first place is to make my styling time faster so the Dr. Miracles Relaxer defeated my purpose.

What I did enjoy from Dr. Miracles though was the fact that my hair wasn’t limp or really dry after I styled it, it still had body and volume which was great. I also was happy that my scalp didn’t seem very affected by it, it didn’t feel itchy or tight right after the relaxer, nor did I get dandruff or dry scalp days later (every relaxer I’ve gotten, rather at home or at the salon has always made my scalp itchy and dry for days and even weeks later.)

So even though I was disappointed with the level of straightening I received with the Dr. Miracle’s Relaxer Kit I really loved the results on my hair and scalp. So I plan on using it again, probably in the Super formula to see if it straightens better, even if it doesn’t I’ll probably continue to use Dr. Miracle’s Relaxing Kits until I’m ready to give up relaxing for good, because it’s really mild.

While this system might feel like a waste of time and money to women who prefer super straight roots, I would recommend the Dr. Miracle’s Regular Hair Relaxing System to women who chemically relax their hair and want minimal damage to their hair and scalps. Even though any relaxing process causes the hair to become damaged, this product will really help you to keep the damage down to a minimum so that you can have fabulous hair. I give this product 2.5 stars for straightening and 4.5 stars for gentleness.
