Pineapple Diet for Lung Health

Lung Health

Your lungs are precious organs, because without them you would be unable to breathe air that supplies your blood with oxygen. Just the act of breathing is a complex process. The lungs look like hundreds of delicate tree branches reaching out in all directions. When we breathe air, our lungs work hard to pull in oxygen and filter out carbon dioxide, which they breathe out. The pineapple lung diet is meant to help keep the lungs clear and strong.

Fresh pineapple

Eat one to two full fresh pineapples each day. Pineapples are very good for the lungs because they have key nutrients and enzymes that help improve blood circulation to the lungs. Eat pineapple for breakfast, lunch and dinner, in addition to other healthy foods. Be sure to eat the pineapple at least 30 minutes before the other foods to give your body time to digest the pineapple first. Your body needs the enzyme bromelain to cleanse and detoxify the digestive system and the lungs. Continue eating pineapple every day as long as you feel it is necessary to detoxify your lungs. You can eat other foods while on this diet, but be sure to eat only foods that will benefit your body, such as raw fruits and vegetables, lean meats, and healthy snacks. Your body also needs healthy fats and oils such as omega-3 fatty acids. These fats are found in salmon, eggs and sunflower seeds.

Pineapple juice

Drink eight to 12 ounces of raw pineapple juice daily. You can get an even greater result from the pineapple diet by drinking pineapple-apple juice in addition to eating fresh pineapples. Avoid buying this juice in the store, because many store-bought juices contain sugar and other additives. Instead, use your juicer to make the juice at home. The juice is very sweet and satisfying. You may even feel a jolt of energy from the natural sugars. For most people a small amount of natural sugar is not harmful, but if you have a medical condition, such as diabetes, talk to your doctor before adding this step. Juice has fiber removed, so your body absorbs it much differently from when you eat fruits whole. Whole fruits, including pineapples, contain fiber, which helps the sugar to be processed much more slowly.

Hydration

Drink eight to 10 glasses of pure water each day. Your body needs water to transport nutrients to the cells where they are needed. Water also flushes out toxins. The pineapple diet can be even more effective when you drink plenty of water. Avoid drinking tap water, because water from municipal sources usually contains chlorine. Chlorine is not good for your lungs or urinary tract. In addition, inhaling chlorine in the shower can damage your lungs. Install a chlorine filter on your shower to protect your lungs and skin from harsh chlorine found in almost all city water supplies.

Talk to your doctor before making any changes in your diet or lifestyle.
