Optimum Nutrition Glycomaize Review

Nutrition, Optimum, Optimum Nutrition

While protein consumption is relentlessly and rightfully emphasized, athletes and bodybuilders also need greater amounts of carbohydrates in order to refuel and replenish muscles that have been put to hard work. However, not just any carbohydrate source will do. Like other nutrients, different carbs digest at different rates, and this timing of digestion is critical for those looking to maintain or build lean muscle mass. Optimum Nutrition Glycomaize is a product specifically designed to aid individuals in the process of priming muscles for a difficult workout and rebuilding those muscles afterwards. Glycomaize is a tasteless powder composed of two carbohydrate sources that are perfect for consumption before, during, and after workouts because of their timely digestion rates. These two carbs – Waxy Maize Starch and Trehelose – provide quick and sustained energy, respectively.

Waxy Maize Starch is fast-digesting while Trehalose is absorbed intermediately. Thus, Optimum Nutrition Glycomaize gives athletes and bodybuilders energy before and during workouts, but also provides much-needed carbohydrates to begin rebuilding muscles after strenuous exercise or activity.

Optimum Nutrition Glycomaize Review: Taste – 10/10

Although Optimum Nutrition Glycomaize is tasteless, there is a specific reason why I give it a 10 out of 10 in a category that doesn’t quite seem to make sense. Yes, Glycomaize is tasteless as advertised; however, and simply put, I believe Optimum Nutrition Glycomaize makes my protein shakes taste better. I’m not quite sure what it is, but there seems to be something about the thick powder that enhances standard protein shakes, especially those mixed with water.

Optimum Nutrition Glycomaize Review: Mixability – 8/10

As briefly mentioned above, Glycomaize powder is somewhat thick. Because of that, do not expect that it will mix perfectly in a simple blender bottle. Nevertheless, this isn’t to say that using a blender bottle cannot be used. In fact, I personally use a standard bottle with whisk or sometimes even shake up a regular water bottle with my protein and Glycomaize. The only reason I Optimum Nutrition Glycomaize isn’t considered the best in terms of mixability is because the thick powder will inevitably lead to some clumps.

Optimum Nutrition Glycomaize Review: Cost – 10/10

Cost effective supplements are always the way to go, and Optimum Nutrition Glycomaize can thankfully be purchased anywhere from $15-25. The 4.4 lb jug contains 50 servings, but I have even seen retailers sell the 75 serving tub of Glycomaize in the previously given price range. With that said, Glycomaize is a pretty affordable supplement.

Optimum Nutrition Glycomaize Review: Overall – 9/10

Considering how easily overlooked carbohydrate supplements can be, Optimum Nutrition Glycomaize is actually one of my favorite products. Not only does it prime me for better workouts, Glycomaize has helped me put on lean muscle mass because it aids in the absorption of other nutrients, such as amino acids and creatine. This is why adding Glycomaize to your existing protein shake is a great idea. Although I would not say that Optimum Nutrition Glycomaize necessarily ought to be in your core supplement stack, it is a product that, if can be afforded, is a great addition.
