Name Art Projects For Kids

One of the first words that little children learn to spell is their own first name, however it can be difficult at times to get a little one to sit down and practice learning how to recognize or spell their name. Name activities for kids are a great way to get kids to stay focused and enjoy practicing learning to recognize and spell their name, the activities are a way for the child to have tactile experiences.

The younger child will need some parental assistance with theses name art projects and older children love making these name art projects because they most likely know how to write their name and will enjoy having the creative experience using their name as the focus of the activity.

I have found that kids of all ages just love doing art related activities and if it involves their name, they take such ownership of the name art project and become completely involved with it.

Kids also love displaying their name art projects, a refrigerator or a wall would be a great place to display the special name art project.

The following name art activities offer an opportunity for the child to explore creativity using their sense of touch and sight and kids just have so much fun with the name art projects!

Q-Tip Name Art

Using a piece of construction paper (any color the child chooses), lay the paper down horizontally and write the child’s name fairly large with a thick marker. Older children can write their own name, it is important to remind them to write large and to try to take up as much of the paper as possible.

Use white glue (white glue works much better than a glue stick for this project) and make a line of glue, make sure to just do one line at a time as the Q-Tip placement can take longer than expected and you don’t want the glue to dry up. Again, older children can do the glue themselves.

Once the line of glue is complete, have your child place a Q-Tip down on the line of glue one after each other, almost like a train. Do this same process until the name is complete. Another option for this name art project is to use dried beans, however it is a little more time consuming and with both the Q-Tips and beans, it is so important to make sure the little ones do not put the items up the nose or in the ear, some place they should not be putting them!

This name art project is so easy and it looks really neat when it is completed and hanging on a wall or refrigerator.

Bubble Letters Name Art

Using a piece of construction paper (any color the child chooses), lay the paper down horizontally and write the child’s name fairly large with a thick marker or crayon, but this time write the letters in bubble letters. The little ones will need the parent to write their name in bubble letters, some older children have difficulty with bubble letters and may need help. Once the name is complete in bubble letters, your child can simply color in the letters, they can do designs such as squiggles or zig-zags or whatever they choose to do inside the letters. It is amazing the designs and colors that children come up with this name art project, even the very little ones do a great job. Once the letters are completed, the name art project can be displayed.

Picture Name Art

Using a piece of construction paper (any color the child chooses), lay the paper down horizontally and write the child’s name fairly large with a thick marker or crayon and using magazine pictures, let your child pick out or help them pick out pictures that are of interest to them. When I have done this project will kids, many times they will pick out a picture of their favorite food, a picture of their favorite sport and maybe a picture of their favorite animal. It is really up to them as to what pictures they think best represent themselves. The little ones will definitely need help with the pictures but they love the project too. Once the pictures are cut out, your child can simply glue the pictures around their name on the construction paper. Another option I have done with kids is to have the child use photographs of themselves, or their pets on the construction paper instead of using the magazine pictures. Either option looks really cute when completed and it is fun to have a discussion with your child as to why they chose the pictures they did. Again, this art project looks fantastic displayed!

Name art projects are so fun to make and kids really love making them so get the paper, the needed materials, an imagination and have a great time!
