Mental Benefits to Diet and Exercise

We all know the benefits of exercise to our body. It can help prevent obesity, heart disease and cancer. It can also help prevent Alzheimer’s disease according to Dr. Amen. While there is no one magic bullet to cure brain disorders, you can feel better if you exercise three days a week at least, and eat healthy natural foods and don’t turn around and starve yourself hoping to be super thin.

There was one study of mice who were brain damaged, curing their damage by being in a mouse “Disneyland” with exercise and a stimulating environment full of interesting toys. Let this be a lesson to anyone suffering from a brain disorder. It has been proven that you can fix brain disorders through dedication to certain principles. According to the book The Brain that Changes Itself, positive thinking can do wonders for the brain state. Despite people poo-pooing Joel Osteen’s positive message of faith and hope and victory, it can do wonders for someone suffering from upset emotions.

But exercise can also help by releasing, endorphin and serotonin and combating Cortisol and reducing adrenaline through using the muscles. If you exercise regularly, you don’t build up the chemicals released in the fight or flight feelings encountered by stressful situations. It can even help you reduce your need for antidepressants, following good nutrition and exercise.

In order to develop the habit of exercise, I used meditation to stay motivated, despite having doubts of whether it would help or not. But once I started exercising, meditating and following a stricter diet, limiting certain foods like white flour and sugar, I felt better and am now much happier than I was a year ago.

If you want to feel better mentally, I can’t say enough good things about the book The Brain Chemistry Plan and Change your Brain Change your Life They give you specifics about diet and exercise and have helped me a lot to conquer the anxiety and depression and other negative thoughts.

But the single best thing I can think of to help you feel better is getting moving and work up a little sweat. As long as you don’t starve yourself and eat healthy foods, you will feel better. While certain diets are better for some people than others, as outlined in The Brain Chemistry Plan, a high protein diet low in refined sugar and flour is better for most people. The brain does need some fat and protein to function properly and this book tells you what is good for you. For almost any problem, fresh vegetables and perhaps some fruit help too.

And if you exercise, this is a good diet to be on to keep healthy and balanced. I used to eat too little to control my weight, Big mistake. Now I eat enough and still have lost 65 lbs and feel better than I have in a long time. I no longer eat emotionally, thanks to exercise, diet and meditation.

So no matter what brain disorder you may have. And many people have nervous ticks, A good healthy diet and an exercise plan can help you conquer today’s stresses and maybe prevent your need for medicine. Or at least help you manage better with medicine.
