I enjoyed a lively night and great food at this modern Denver, Colorado restaurant decorated with local art. This gathering place is welcoming, casual and fun. From the bartenders to the wait staff, everyone is ready to serve you, with the emphasis on making sure your experience at Jax Fish House is one you’ll never forget.

One of the biggest draws is Jax Raw Oyster Bar. They feature a variety of fresh oysters and clams, chilled Alaskan king crab and Maine lobsters, all flown in daily. There are Happy Hour specials here too, including oyster shooters, gumbo and peel-and-eat shrimp. Create your own “lemonades” from pineapple, watermelon, peach or pomegranate flavored vodkas. Or try ordering one of their many specialty drinks and Martinis.

You can stay seated at the bar, or make your way to a table for dinner at Denver’s favorite seafood restaurant. There’s something for everyone, including children, on the moderate to expensive priced menu. Vegetarians won’t find too many options though. It was hard to choose just one of the seasonal fish dishes prepared by the popular Denver chef, Sheila Lucero, whose reputation for flavorful and unforgettable food runs far beyond Denver, Colorado. I was extremely satisfied with the Alaskan Halibut served with pasta, asparagus and morel mushrooms. The extensive wine list features many California wines and the knowledgeable wait staff will help you make just the right choice to compliment your meal. I ended my more than satisfactory meal with the vanilla bean crème Brule sprinkled with candied kumquats. Although I did not indulge, I was intrigued by the dessert wine and cordial selection.

While at dinner I learned that Jax Fish House held its 10th Annual Oyster Month in March. This month long celebration offers oyster themed events like the New Orleans style party and oyster eating contests, with the proceeds going to charities. This year all the funds went to a charity that helps rebuild homes for those displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
