Chicken Skin, George Foreman, Ronco, Rotisserie Chicken

Rotisserie cooked chicken is juicy and great tasting. You can find a rotisserie oven cooked chickens at Walmart, and at your local grocery store in the deli department. While the precooked rotisserie chickens at the stores, cost more than regular uncooked chickens from the meat department, they do save time when it comes to dinner.

You can purchase a George Foreman Rotisserie Oven at Lowe’s will cost you $99.95. The George Foreman Rotisserie Oven’s price may seem high, but compared to the Ronco Rotisserie Oven that will cost you about $160 depending on where you purchase it at. The sliding door on the George Foreman Rotisserie is easier to open than the Ronco Rotisserie door. I compared and priced check both rotisseries before purchasing the George Foreman Rotisserie.

The George Foreman Rotisserie comes with a round vegetable roasting basket, a flat roasting basket, roasting spit, basket remover, and skewers for making shish ka bobs. The basic items needed for recipes that require your meat or vegetables to be roasted. The George Foreman Rotisserie also comes with a removable drip tray for easy cleaning and built in timer for cooking.

The rotisserie doesn’t heat your home like your oven does during the cooking process. This will save you money over time with your home energy bills.

Other Ingredients for a Rotisserie Chicken

• One whole chicken. You can find chickens in your meat department at your favorite grocery store that comes pretied with butchers string. The cost of the chicken that comes pretied will cost your about 30 cents more per pound, but it will save you time on tying the chicken. These chickens are also moister than the other untied chickens.
• Butchers string. (Optional) This will need to be used if you purchase an untied chicken.
• Large plate or platter.

Preparing Your Chicken

You will want to remove the giblets from the cavity of the united chicken and from the opening at the breast area of a tied chicken if they come with it.
If you purchase an untied chicken, you will want to tie the legs and wings together so they do not hit the cooking element as the chicken rotates during cooking. If you purchased a pretied chicken, skip to the seasoning and spit steps.

Sprinkle and rub your favorite seasonings onto your chicken. You can also sprinkle and rub the seasoning into the cavity for additional flavoring.

Place the chicken onto the spit so that you have the long tine going through the middle of the chicken and the shorter tines in the wing and leg area. The instruction book that comes with the George Foreman Rotisserie Oven will show you how this is done.

Place the other end onto the spit. Tighten the wing-nuts on the short end to hold the ends of the spit together during the cooking process. Place the spit into the oven with the end that has the cogs on the cog end of the rotisserie. This is also shown in the instruction book.

Make sure the drip tray is in place in the bottom of the oven. Without it the drippings will run out of the rotisserie onto your counter top.

Close the door of the oven. Plug your rotisserie oven in.

Setting the Timer

You will want to cook your chicken for 20 minutes a pound. This ensures that the chicken is cooked all the way through and provides a crisp skin. The crisp skin also allows the juices to stay in the chicken rather than seeping into the drip pan. The oil and grease from the chicken skin will drip into the drip tray. Cook the chicken until the timer dings.

Removing the Chicken from the Rotisserie Oven

Place the large plate or platter in front of or close to the rotisserie. This will help in the removing of the chicken from the rotisserie and dropping your chicken on the floor.

Use the rotisserie hook remover to take the chicken out of the oven. The rotisserie hook remover is wide enough to slide into the rotisserie oven under both ends of the spit. You will want the spit to be resting in the middle of the curve of the hook before removing.

Let the roasted chicken on the spit sit for a few minutes to cool before removing the spit. The spit is hot so DO NOT touch it with your bare hands. If the rest of your dinner is ready before the chicken and spit has cooled enough, use a baking glove to loosen the wing-nuts on the end of the spit. Use the gloved hand and a pot holder in the other hand to remove the spit from the chicken.

Cutting and Serving Your Rotisserie Chicken

You can carve your chicken in the same manner as a turkey.

You can also cut the chicken into pieces as you would for frying.

You can serve the chicken on the same plate or platter. You can also serve it on a clean plate or platter.

The best thing about using a rotisserie oven for roasting a chicken is that you do not have to keep basting the chicken during the cooking process.

Cleaning Your Rotisserie Parts

You can hand wash the parts by hand or place them in your dishwasher. The spit is best washed on the up level of your dishwasher.

Not all of the parts will be able to be stored in your rotisserie. The flat basket and spit can easily fit into the rotisserie oven when not in use. The round larger basket and hook will not store in the rotisserie oven with the other two items. The hook is too large. I hang my hook and large round basket on hooks on the wall.

Happy chicken roasting with your George Foreman Rotisserie Oven.
