How to Make a Cupcake Tower Stand

You don’t have to have any cake decorating skills to create an impressive cupcake tower. In fact, you won’t need to do much to your cupcakes at all and they’ll still turn out looking great when they are displayed on a homemade cupcake tower stand. With a few supplies, and a total cost of under $ 15.00, you can make a cupcake tower stand for any occasion. Use it to display birthday cupcakes, holiday cupcakes, and even wedding cupcakes!

The supplies needed to make a cupcake tower stand include:

– (1) 8″ round cardboard cake board
– (1) 10″ round cardboard cake board
– (1) 14″ round cardboard cake board
– (2) Clear acrylic drinking glasses
– Glue stick
– Hot glue gun
– Wrapping paper
– Exacto knife
– Decorative ribbon

In this supplies list above, you’ll see that wrapping paper and decorative ribbon are required. The wrapping paper will be used to cover the cardboard cake boards and the ribbon will be used to cover the sides of these boards. Therefore, you will want to choose the patterns of these items according to your cupcake theme. Keep in mind that for the most part the paper will be covered with cupcakes, so the ribbon will be visible to guests.

How to make a cupcake tower stand:

STEP 1 – Cover each cake board with wrapping paper. To do this, rub the top of the surface with a glue stick and then attach the wrapping paper. Leave some excess hanging off the sides and once you have the wrapping paper in place, go back and remove it with an Exacto knife. Smooth the paper down to remove any air bubbles.

STEP 2 – Using your hot glue gun, trim the edge of each cake board with decorative ribbon. Your cupcake tower stand is now ready to assemble.

STEP 3 – The two acrylic glasses will form the support system for your cupcake tower stand. Place the largest decorated cake board on a flat surface with the wrapping paper facing up. Now, position a cup in the middle of the board, with widest end facing down. Next, apply hot glue to the smaller end of the cup and press the BOTTOM (undecorated side) of the 10″ cake board on top. Press firmly. Repeat this process for the next layer.

Once your cupcake tower stand is complete, you’re ready to serve your cupcakes. If you’d like to add more decorative touches, place real or artificial flowers around the base of the stand or sprinkle confetti or small candies in and around it.
