Tea Set Crafts: Three Fun Projects

Bird Baths, Tea Set, Thrifting, Wine Glasses

Plates, teapots, cups and saucers are all over your local thrift store. They are never in short supply and you can make some fantastic things using any one of these plentiful kitchen items. So, search your cupboards or head down to the thrift store and start making some of these awesome projects!

Teacup Wine Glasses
If you have a lot of mismatched wine glasses, tea cups or want an excuse to go thrifting, consider this project. Teacup wine glasses are nothing but fabulous. They have an old-world feel to them and would make a great gift. Get a jump on the holidays, or prepare a chic present for your sister’s birthday. Shh, that is what I did!

Supplies needed to make Teacup Wine Glasses

  • Glass cutter
  • Wine glasses
  • Super glue
  • Teacups

Directions for making Teacup Wine Glasses

  1. Score the stem of a wine glass using the glass cutter. I should mention the wine glasses and teacups do not have to match. The beauty of this project really lies in the eclectic look. If you really want a matching set, that is easy enough to do though.
  2. Snap the stem off the wine glass. You can do this by holding it in a towel and then gently taping it against the sink.
  3. Use Super Glue to bond the stem to the bottom of the teacup. Use Super Glue glass adhesive for the best bond.

Teacup Bird Bath and Feeder

This is almost like the above except that it is luxury for the birds and not the girls. Tea cup bird baths are really a cute garden addition. Add color and whimsy inexpensively. These can easily be complete in a very short amount of time without a whole lot of crafty skills!

Supplies needed to make Teacup Bird Bath and Feeder

  • Cup and Saucer
  • Spoon
  • 1/2 inch Copper Pipe
  • 1/2 inch Copper Cap (Also in the pluming section of hardware store.)
  • Sandpaper
  • All Purpose Adhesive such as E6000
  • Birdseed
  • Water

Directions for making a Teacup Bird Bath and Feeder:

  1. Sand the bottom of the cup with sandpaper and the top of the saucer where the cup will be glued. This step ensures a better bond.
  2. Apply adhesive to permanently attach the cup to the saucer. Press firmly and then put a heavy book on top until it is completely dry.
  3. Glue the spoon to the saucer. This step can be skipped, but it does add additional charm and is a cute perch for the birds.
  4. When the entire teacup is dry and firmly bonded together, flip it over and sand the middle of the saucer. Also sand the top of the copper cap. Apply adhesive and hold in place. Set a heavy book on top until it is completely cured, approximately 24 hours.
  5. Stick the copper pipe in the ground and then set the finished Teacup Bird Feeder on top. The pipe will fit right into the copper cap.
  6. Now all you have to do is fill the teacup with water and spread birdseed on the saucer. If you build it, they will come!
