Homemade Remedies to Remove Excessive Earwax

Earwax, Homemade Remedies, Homemade Remedy

Have you ever yawned and one or both of your ears clogged up? Or, have you blown your nose with a tissue, and suddenly you couldn’t hear well out of your left or right ear? It’s not always the problem, but it could mean you have an accumulation of earwax. The best way to determine if this is the problem, is to use a soft, clean, moist cloth. Gently wipe out the outer curves of your ears, as well as around the hole. Don’t poke your fingers or the cloth inside your ear. If you see earwax on the cloth, that’s a telltale sign you need to use one of the many homemade remedies to remove excessive earwax.

The first thing to remember is that you should never, ever stick objects like a bobby pin, matchstick, pencil point or paper clip inside your ear. Doing this can damage your inner ear and can lead to permanent hearing loss. There are much safer methods of removing excessive earwax. And, not only are homemade remedies safe, but they can save you time and money, as opposed to going to your doctor.

Hydrogen Peroxide is one of my favorite remedies for excessive earwax. I used to buy over-the-counter eardrops, but when I found out the best product had hydrogen peroxide in it, I stopped wasting my money on buying it. You can find bottles of peroxide for under a buck at just about any store.

All you need to do to use Hydrogen Peroxide is to lean your head over the bathroom sink. Or, lean over a large, old pan. Use an eye dropper to place three or four drops of the peroxide in the affected ear. You’ll hear it working inside your ear fizzling away as it dissolves the ear wax. Allow the hydrogen peroxide to remain in your ear for a few minutes. Then, use a syringe and very warm to flush the excessive wax out. Repeat the application, if need be. Then, wipe the outer part of your ear with a clean, dry cloth to finish.

Another effective, homemade remedy is to use warmed olive or baby oil. Place about a half teaspoon of either oil on a metal spoon. Then, move a lit match back and forth underneath the spoon for several seconds to warm the oil. Test the temperature with the end of your finger before you pour the oil into your ear(s). Allow the oil to remain in your ear(s) for several minutes before you flush it out with very warm water and a syringe. If you still can’t hear well, or you think for some reason there’s more excessive wax in your ear, then repeat the steps again.

Baking soda is an amazing product. If you sat down and made a list of everything baking soda can do around your house and garage, you would probably be amazed! You can now add “remove excessive earwax” to that list. This homemade remedy is easy to use too. Just measure out a teaspoon of baking soda into a sealable container. Stir in three quarters of a cup of very warm water until the baking soda is dissolved. Then, place three or four drops of the solution in each affected ear. Let the solution soak, then flush your ear(s) out with very warm water and a syringe. Do this two or three times a day.

And finally, if none of these homemade remedies seems to work for you, consult your healthcare professional. Your loss of hearing might not be caused by excessive earwax. It may be caused by a medical condition that you’ll need treatment for.
