Gardener’s Clay Pot Wind Chime: A Perfect Springtime Craft

Wind Chimes

Are you a gardener or have garden loving friends? Have I got the perfect springtime craft for you! It is a wind chime made from miniature clay pots. It is quick, easy, inexpensive to make, looks great and works well as a gift. Here is what you need to do to make one:

Gardener’s Clay Pot Wind Chime Material List

In order to complete this springtime craft you will need to gather together the following items;

1 pair scissors
1 bag whole pecans in the shell
1 bag whole nutmegs in the shell
1 bag whole cinnamon sticks
1 roll three ply jute
3 miniature clay pots, ½ inch in diameter with hole in the bottom
1 electric drill with ¼ inch bit
1 sewing needle, large eyed

Step 1: Preparing the Nuts and Cinnamon Sticks

Begin by taking out the nuts, cinnamon sticks and the electric drill outfitted with the 1/4th inch bit. Proceed by drilling a hole in the center of each cinnamon stick and nut. Set them aside.

Step 2: Preparing the Jute

Measure and cut a piece of jute long enough to accommodate the length of all three clay pots combined plus six inches extra. Create a loop at the top of the jute and secure it with a knot. The loop is what you will use to hang the wind chime up.

Step 3: Assembling the Wind Chime

Continue by threading the non-looped end of the jute through the large eyed, sewing needle. Then string one nutmeg or pecan onto the jute and press it flush against the knotted, looped end. Follow the nut with a pair of cinnamon sticks and an upside down clay pot. After the first clay pot has been threaded onto the jute, string two nuts onto the jute followed by another clay pot. Repeat this procedure until all the clay pots have been strung onto the jute. Then make a knot in the jute and add another nut. Repeat making knots and adding nuts until you are happy with the wind chime’s length. Once you are happy with the wind chime’s length tie a final knot in the jute and remove the needle. Your gardener’s clay pot wind chime is now ready to be hung up and enjoyed or packaged as a gift for your garden loving friend.
