The “Blossoming Flower” birthday party invitation fits perfectly into the garden theme. To make your “Blossoming Flower” invitations you need some colored construction paper, scissors, some type of binder (glue, stapler, tape), and markers. Cut two flower pot shapes out of orange construction paper. Attach the two flower pot shaped papers together using glue, staples, or tape leaving the top of the flower pot untouched (to act as an opening). The flower pot will serve as your birthday party invitation envelope. You can have your child decorate the outside of the flower pot and include the recipient’s name, if desired. To make your ladybug invitations simply cut out an oval shape from white or light colored construction paper. Next, cut the wings from red construction paper to tape onto your oval. Dot the red ladybug wings with black circles cut from construction paper. To complete the look of the ladybug, cut out a black head with antennae and glue onto the top of your oval. Once your ladybug is finished, write the details of the garden-themed birthday party on the part of the oval body hidden beneath the wings.

Birthday Party Decorations Idea #1: Large Flower Pots
One way to decorate your home for your child’s garden-themed birthday party is to use large flower pots as snack food containers. Because you won’t want to place the food directly into the pot you should place something such as a book into the bottom of the pot and then place the snack food, poured into a bowl, on top of the book. You could also use a flower pots to hold things like plastic utensils, napkins, plastic cups, etc. You could use plain flower pots or have your child decorate the flower pots for the birthday party.
Birthday Party Decorations Idea #2: Garden-Themed Table
You can decorate your cake table in a beautiful garden theme to go with your garden-themed birthday party. One way to decorate your table in a garden theme is to use a flowery plastic tablecloth. You could also use a pastel plaid tablecloth or a pink tablecloth set over a green one, allowing the green to peek out from the bottom of the pink tablecloth. Adding flower arrangements to your cake table can also help transform your table for the birthday party. You can choose to go with real flowers, pre-made fabric or silk flowers, or make your own paper or tissue paper flowers. Paper flowers can be made just like the ones for the paper flower birthday invitations and stuck into floral foam tucked into flower pots or placed into plastic cups for short vases. One fun idea for a garden-themed placemat would be to use grass mats in place of traditional placemats. One way to make them is to cut rolls of plastic grass into individual placemats.

A child’s birthday party isn’t complete unless you have party balloons. For your daughter’s garden-themed birthday party you can purchase balloons that are pink and green to cover the floor in the party room. If you rather not cover the floor you could have the balloons filled with helium and let them cover the ceiling instead. Make sure to keep ribbon nearby so that you can give each party guest a balloon to take home with them when they leave. You can also purchase flower shaped helium filled balloons and tie them onto each chair at your cake table.

Earlier in the article I mentioned a fun activity involving flower pots from the “Paper Flowers” birthday party invitations. Well here it is. This activity involves flower pots, soil, and flower seeds. The flower pots will be the ones you handed out with your “Paper Flowers” invitations. When sending out these invitations you should make sure to ask your guests to bring the flower pots with them to the party. You can also keep extras on hand in case anyone forgets to bring their flower pot. Set up a folding table in an open area as your gardening table. Have each child place their flower pots on the table and fill them with soil. You can set out bowls of soil, along with inexpensive plastic toy shovels to shovel the soil into the individual flower pots. After each child has filled their pot with soil allow them to pick out which flower seeds they want to plant. Have a variety of flower seed packets on hand and set into the middle of the gardening table for the children to choose from. Any leftover seeds can be taken home with the children as well. After their seeds have been planted have the children water their plants using a plastic child friendly watering can set nearby.

Place flower shaped cookies onto paper plates and let your party guests decorate them using colored frosting, candies, sprinkles, and colored sugars. You could use floral decorated napkins in place of paper plates, if desired. Another idea would be to have your guests decorate cupcakes. Place cupcakes onto a napkin and let the children decorate them with green frosting (for the grass), candy flower sprinkles, pastel M&M;’s, and other fun garden decorations. The decorated cupcakes would make a great substitution to a more traditional birthday cake. Just place the birthday candle on your daughter’s cupcake before your child and her guests begin to eat their decorated cupcakes.
Birthday Party Activities Idea #3: Tea Party
If your daughter’s birthday is during one of the warmer months of the year then you can have an outdoor tea party in your own backyard garden. Instead of serving tea to your child and her guests you can serve lemonade. Your birthday party guests can also enjoy a variety of cookies with their lemonade. To add to the fun of your garden tea party you can bring out your daughter’s trunk full of dress up clothes for the guests to get dressed up in or ask your guests to come dressed up for a fancy tea party in the garden.
For some added fun, the birthday girl and her party guests can create bracelets and necklaces using purchased jewelry making kits. After each child has made her own necklace and bracelet, she can wear her new jewelry to the garden tea party.
