Decorating Your Tween Girls Bedroom

Bedroom Decorating Ideas, Bold Colors, Girl's Bedroom

Your little girl is growing up, and a grown up girl’s bedroom is just what she needs to start feeling her independence. Gone are the days of princesses and barbies, but what comes next? Here are some tween bedroom decorating ideas that are sure to delight your pre-teen daughter.

1. Rock-n-roll.

The age of a tween girl, generally 9-12, is the age they often start to discover music and show their personality. Typically rock-n-roll music will delight them, as they start to feel older and more adult-like. A rock-n-roll theme room is not hard to do and your pre-teen will be the envy of all her friends.

Try a wall color that is bold, such as red, with black or silver trim. Silver walls are also a nice touch, and a little less dramatic than red.

Rock star posters can be hung around room, and often there are groups that your tween will be crazy over. (Remember the Jonas Brothers?).

Purchase some blank CDs from any discount store, and decorate them with glitter. Put some glue on the CD, sprinkle with glitter and then let dry. Flip it over and do the same with the other side. Now, drill a hole in the CD and hang from the ceiling as a decoration. Easy, and cheap too!

2. Room to Lounge.

Tween girls will love to have a room to “lounge” as they are starting to developing longer lasting friendships. At this age, they are beginning to enjoy hanging out, as opposed to “playing”. Giving them room to lounge will appease to their newfound independence.

Moon chairs are a great hit among tweens. They are large, round, lower to the ground often very comfortable. They can be found in various colors.

Futons and bean bag chairs are also a great addition to the bedroom, depending on how much room you have to work with.

When going with the lounge theme, keep in mind the important factor is seating. If you have any available space, throw some body pillows on the floor.

For color scheme, keep the colors in the warm family to help with the relaxing mood. Colors such as beige, browns, and oranges are nice warm tones for the room.

3. Party Room.

For a more energetic and active tween, decorating her bedroom with a party theme is a fun and unique style.

Go with bold colors to add to the energy of the room. Add some streamers of color along the wall in various paint colors. One idea is to go with white walls, and add streamers of blue, red, orange, green and yellow across all the walls.

Shop for a solid, bold, comforter and add some accent pillows in contrasting colors. Keep with the blues, reds and yellows to add a party theme.

Hang up a pinata in one corner for decoration. Find some nylon rope in bold colors, or paint it. Hang this rope up in the corners and attach stuffed animals to it. Your tween girl may be growing up, but she probably still loves her stuffed animals.

Hang party signs, such as “The Party Is Here”, up on the wall.

Your tween girl is ready for a more grown up bedroom. Consider adding some special touches that she may not have had as a “little girl”. Those touches may be:

Desk

Vanity

Mirrors

All in all, each tween girl will be different. Consider your tween’s needs and desires when decorating. Your tween may be an avid soccer player, in which case a soccer theme may be appropriate. She may be a dancer and may want a dance theme.

Decorating ideas for a tween need to be more grown up than a little girl room, but keep in mind she is still a child!
