The Master Cleanse Diet, also known as a Lemon Detox Diet, has become wildly popular since Beyonce announced on The Oprah Winfrey show that she used the diet prior to filming Dream Girls. The Master Cleanse Diet, also known as the Lemon Detox Diet, has been articulated by Raylen Sterling in his book Lose Weight, Have More Energy, and be Happier in 10 Days.

Raylen Sterling has hit upon a popular way to lose weight fast, but should you be concerned about doing the Lemon Detox Diet or Hollywood Master Cleanse Diet when Raylen Sterling is not a doctor, nor has he been to medical school?

The diet is essentially a ten day fast, with pre-determined drinks, primarily lemonade. But there is more to the Master Cleaner Diet than a lemonade fast. According to Mr. Sterling, the diet works by consuming large volumes of water, fiber, and some raw vegetables.

The Lemon Detox Diet sounds appealing, but there’s more to the diet than lemonade, water, and fiber combinations mentioned above. Try the lemonade it is intended to be made with freshly squeezed lemons, water, cayan pepper, and all natural maple syrup ( which is a large influx of carbohydrates and sugar, whether it is all natural or not.) Oh, and don’t cheat by using Splenda or Sweet ‘N Low in your lemonade. Technically, these man-made sweeteners are also toxins.

The Master Cleanse Diet requires drinking about a quart of salt water every day and laxative mixtures at night. This could be worse for your body than a regular fast or juice fast, especially if you do ten or fourteen day plan. You will lose weight, because the salt water will draw fluids into your intestines and they will be flushed. The problem is, in flushing your digestive tract so radically and rapidly you will flush important electrolytes. The loss of vital nutrients, minerals, and electrolytes is compounded by the nightly laxative concoction.

What’s the big deal about electrolytes? Electrolytes keep your body’s system in balance and working properly. Severe electrolyte imbalance can lead to cardiac arrest. Not only that, but the diet does not add essential nutrients or macro-nutrients back into your diet. There is some question as to whether the diet may actually inhibit proper operation of the liver, rather than cleanse it. It may also interfere with proper kidney function.

The medical community does not like or approve of the Lemon Detox Diet, or Master Cleanse Diet. While most doctors are not opposed to a short, detox, cleansing fast, they say the Master Cleanser Diet is simply too dangerous.

Arguments are heated between proponents and opponents of the diet. Those who use the diet primarily for detox and not weight loss seem to be happier with the diet. Many say they crave more natural, healthy foods following the detox.

Those who use the Hollywood Master Cleanse Diet for rapid weight loss will likely be disappointed. This diet plays right into the anorexic and binge purge behaviors that the medical profession has been fighting for so long.

Once most people have deprived their body on the Hollywood Lemon Detox Diet for ten to fourteen days, the truth is they will go back, usually to the extreme, eating toxic foods high in sugar, fat, and preservatives.

Sterling counters this argument by saying the Hollywood Detox Diet is not for everyone. He says that you should know your own body prior to undertaking the extreme Lemon Detox Diet. His book, Lose Weight, Have More Energy, and be Happier in 10 Days, however beckons dieters in the front of health food stores, and is featured in book stores. Dieter’s have to wake up and use their common sense; this book is not marketed for your benefit. It is marketed to put money in the pockets of the publisher and author.

Those who have successfully used the Hollywood Master Cleanse, or Lemon Detox Diet, admit that after the initial weight loss of 10 -20 pounds they do regain about ¾ of the weight back. Proponents who use Hollywood’s Master Cleanse Diet, however, do not generally use it for weight loss. Positive perspectives from the diet are offered by people who use it as a detox, then return to a lifestyle of healthy eating. This still doesn’t mitigate the harmful effects of this diet on the body.

Still think the Hollywood Detox Diet is a good idea? Consider other negative aspects of the diet. There is no protein in the diet. Proteins are the basic building blocks of cells. There is no doctor who will stand behind the diet because it is more harmful than beneficial, and it may very likely trigger underlying health conditions of which dieter’s were not previously aware. Negative side effects reported using Hollywood’s Master Detox Diet include vomiting, lethargy, extreme weakness, and fainting.

Fasting is a medically accepted and proven way to detox your body from pollutants and the ingestion of harmful elements such as mercury from fish, lead and chlorine from tap water, and artificial sweeteners and other chemicals used to process and preserve foods. I can attest to the fact that a 3 -5 day juice fast, including soup if you feel too weak, will cleanse your body, leave your skin feeling baby soft, and energize you.

However, if you deprive yourself of food and nutrients over a long period of time and flush those you have from your body with salt water and laxatives at the same time, your body just might rebel.

Give serious consideration to the Lemon Detox Diet, Hollywood Master Cleanse Diet, or any other radical quick weight loss plan before accepting it as a miracle cure to losing weight. Detox is different than weight loss.

The most reasonable approach to weight loss is the one you don’t want to hear. Monitor your diet and exercise.

Be careful amongst the miracle weight loss diets that push you to conform to the body image of Hollywood. These can be dangerous, and may even hide the beauty and life for which you have been created.
