The new millennium has been a productive one for R&B; star Beyoncé, aka Beyonce Giselle Knowles. From her Dangerously in Love album to her latest I am… Sasha Fierce, the past few years have been her absolute best. Here is a list of the best Beyoncé songs of the decade, sorted by album and EP.
Beyoncé began making appearances without Destiny’s Child in 2000. Her first solo album, Dangerously in Love, debuted in June 2003 and won five Grammy’s in 2004.
10. “Crazy in Love” featuring rapper Jay-Z is a very catchy, hot tune. Beyoncé’s soulful vocals mix well with Jay-Z’s once again (1 of several the pair has done together). Coincidentally, Jay-Z is now her husband.
9. “Naughty Girl” is bubbly with an addictive chorus and disco feel. Beyoncé shows us what she’s got with this raucous, sexual song.
B’Day released on September 5, 2006, Beyoncé’s 25th birthday, contains less hits than its predecessor. I only liked one song off the album.
8. “Irreplaceable” reminds significant others what can happen if they cheat. Yet another Beyoncé song that stays in your head long after you hear it. The diva can sing!
Two of the biggest female artists of the decade, Beyoncé and Shakira released their “Beautiful Liar” EP on April 9, 2007.
7. “Beautiful Liar” has catchy lyrics, Spanish spice, and a hip-moving beat. You are sure to love this hit from two fabulous female singers of the past ten years.
I am… Sasha Fierce album released in November 2008 is a very diverse collection, from soulful dance to mellow romantic. Sasha Fierce is an alter ego that combines Beyonce’s vulnerability with Sasha’s assertiveness and attitude to bring female-empowering. Her third album is a 2-disc set that contains the best Beyoncé hit tunes ever and received the most stars on Rolling Stone Album Reviews.
6. Smash Into You” is a beautifully vocal, romantic slow song that could be the next radio hit, from Beyoncé’s Sasha album.
5. “Sweet Dreams” was leaked before the albums release as “Beautiful Nightmare” and like most of Beyoncé’s songs, is a hit around the world. More popular first in Europe and Australia, the U.S. caught on in September 2009 when it reached Billboard’s Top 40 – Knowles 19th solo Top 40 single.
4. “Ave Maria” showcases Beyoncé’s range and abilities as a top female vocalist. This song is beautiful and heartfelt but does replicate a favorite line from John Lennon, who said, “Life is what happens while your busy making other plans.” Beyonce replaces life with love, “Sometimes love can come and pass you by while you’re busy making plans.
3. “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)” – Put your hands up for this instant hit that displays the fierceness of Sasha and makes me want to dance and sing. Beyoncé won 2009 BET and MTV video of the year for this hot dance song.
2. “Halo” is the second single from Beyoncé’s bestselling Sasha Fierce album. Her vocals are outstanding and lyrics virtuous. This hit along with all of her others are still popular as we move into 2010.
1. “If I Were a Boy” – I saved the best for last; my favorite song ever by Beyoncé. Her vocals and lyrics are beautiful, thought-provoking and moving. This is definitely my favorite song of the decade.
Beyoncé Knowles has been a stellar performer for the past several years and is named Billboard’s Top Female Artist of the Decade in 2009 and nominated for 10 Grammy’s in 2010. Congrats Beyoncé and thanks for the beautiful, hip-stirring, diverse collection of music. I am anxious to see what the next ten years will bring from this talented R&B; diva.
