You can never have too many hats during the fall and winter seasons. It is ideal to have a hat that coordinates with your outfit – whether it be formal or sporty. One type of hat that you can’t go wrong with is a crochet hat with a visor brim that will give you a preppy news boy look. I really enjoyed the turnout of this slouchy brimmed cap that I recently crocheted using Lion Brand yarn. The crochet brim lining step especially worked well! The pattern suggests using two balls of LB Organic Collection Wool in the shade of Eggplant; a size I-9 crochet hook; and one large-eye blunt needle.

Crocheters who prefer to make brimmed hats with a snug fit will love Alison’s crochet brim hat design that includes a band, brim, and crochet flower. Her hat design has a circumference of 20 inches and fits most women. Alison’s intermediate level pattern recommends Red Heart Classic yarn: one skein of 645 Honey Gold and one skein of 513 Parakeet B. The other materials include size 3.75mm (US F5) and 4 mm (US G-6) crochet hooks and a yarn needle.

Susan has designed a neat-looking crochet brimmed hat. Her pattern simply requires a 100 g (3.5 oz.) skein of 4 ply worsted yarn and a size 4 mm (G-6) crochet hook.
Crochet DROPS Cap in “Muskat Soft” with Border and Decorative Button
The DROPS designs found on Garn Studio’s website are some of the best crochet patterns that I have tried. While the patterns are written in British English with measurements in centimeters, a conversion chart is provided. This brimmed cap crochet pattern is designed for sizes small to large in a pretty multicolored DROPS Muskat Soft yarn: 100 grams color no. 5 red mix and 50 grams color no. 34 pink. A size 3.5mm crochet hook and a wooden button is recommended.
Two Toned Beaked Hat by Debbie G.
Another great crochet brimmed hat pattern that I have made is Debbie G’s Two Toned Beaked Hat that came out with a roomy fit and a nicely angled visor brim. Debbie G.’s pattern requires three ounces of worsted weight yarn and a size G crochet hook.
Seeing how simple it is to make crochet brimmed visor hats has made me want to crochet at least a dozen. This fashionable cap style makes an excellent gift during the holidays for both genders and all ages. Knowing how to crochet brimmed hats is definitely a great skill to have under your belt when it comes to battling freezing cold temperatures.
