Why It’s Important to Go to a Good Dentist: Post Root Canal

Root Canal

One year ago, right before we were planning on going on vacation, I started to experience what I thought was a horrible ear infection. This is one symptom that you need a root canal done. The roots or nerves on the teeth are located so close to the ear that it appears as if you have an ear infection. I went to the emergency room after about one month of getting no sleep because the pressure from laying down seems to make the problem worse. Root canal pain is one of the worst pains that you can go through, probably because there’s nothing you can do to relieve the pain other than taking medication to help with the infection. Root Canal pain has been described to be just as worse as labor pains and I would know because I recently had a child.

After another month of endless pain and no sleep I decided to go to a dentist office in my home town. The dentist office told me that I needed a root canal done and sent me home after the x-rays. They scheduled me an appointment to come back in several weeks. After waiting another two weeks, I stayed up all night in order to call the dentist office when they opened at 8 am. I cryed to them on the phone because the pain was so excrushiating. I went to the dentist office right away and then gave me a shot, which felt like I had just died and gone to heaven. They drilled out my tooth and stuck several brushes in the nerves to remove the nerve. They also found a third nerve, which happens a lot of the time. If you are having a root canal procedure done, make sure that they locate all of the nerves or it will become reinfected.

After they remove the nerve they will leave a temporary filling in your tooth until they can order a crown fit for the tooth. The denist told me to eat only jello and applesauce until I could come back for the crown, two weeks later. After about one week, the temporary filling inside my tooth was crushed and pieces of the filling was lodged up inside of the gums so I was in more pain that I started out with.

When I came back to the dentist, she yelled at me. She yelled at the other dentists right in front of me and was throwing the tools down on my chest. She was being extremely rough and ended the procedure with, “That’s good enough.” After being yelled at, paying $500 and still being in a tremendous amount of pain, I switched to a different dentist office. They fitted my tooth with a crown and sent me on my way.

It’s been almost a year later and I just returned from the emergency room again last night. The pain is worse now than it has every been. If I knew that pulling my entire tooth out completely would relieve all this pain and let me sleep, I would do it. The pain is worse now than it’s ever been. The pain only comes at night, about every ten minutes, and the pain is so horrible that all you can do is scream all through the night. Root canals lead to many different problems. If the dentist doesn’t remove all of the root or misses a root completely, your tooth will become reinfected. You can also crush the filling up inside of your gums which doesn’t feel good either.

I am in more pain than I started with about $1600.00 later. I don’t have any more money to go to a different dentist and get my problems fixed. They make you pay for the procedure before you leave the dentist office. At this point, I can hardly hear out of my left ear anymore. I get shaped paralyzing pains which run up the side of my face, through my ear and eye. The pain is so strong that it actually paralyzes my entire face, and nobody can find anything wrong with my tooth.

The biggest advice that I would give to you is start out at the best dentist office that you can find. If you start having any problems, stay at the dentist until your problems are fixed. Don’t expect that the Root Canal procedure will take care of all of your pain. I hope that someday, a dentist office will finally figure out what went wrong. Don’t let this same thing happen to you. Do your research and do everything you can to avoid all of these problems.
