Why It’s Great to Be Lactose Intolerant

What? Yes, that’s what the title of this article reads, and its not a joke. It’s really great to be lactose intolerant for a number of reasons. Lactose intolerant people are a part of a specific group of people who have symptoms when they consume dairy products. These sypmptoms include anything from gas to stomach cramps, and other symptoms that are too gross to talk about here. Lactose intolerant people cannot consume things like Coldstone Icecream, Dairy Queen, regular milk, lattes, cappuccinos, and bagels with luscious cream cheese. They can totally forget about pepperoni pizza, veggie pizza, and even pizza hot pockets. Furthermore, if all of the above was not enough, many people are not born with lactose intolerance. It arrives as a “gift” to them later on in life. They grow up for years hooked on Dairy Queen and Breyers icecream only to find out in their twenties or later years that they must put the darn orange cream popscicle down because their bodies now lack the enzyme lactase, which makes it easy to digest dairy products.

However, as I mentioned before, inspite of what seem to be downsides of being lactose intolerant, it actually is great to be forced to give up dairy for a number of reasons. First, you are given an opportunity to lose weight. Most dairy is composed of a lot of calories. Too name a few, icecream and pizza are on the top of the list of foods that account for much of the calorie consumption that occurs during an average family meal. On tv, many stars are shown emotionally eating a quart full of icecream in order to ease their woes. Like smoking cigarettes, this celebrity habit has been taken on by many overweight and emotionally distressed women in today’s society. However, lactose intolerant people cannot drown their sadness in icecream. Therefore, they should be seriously cutting some calories for themselves after they get all of the cheese, frozen yogurt, and butter out of their fridge and into the garbage.

Lactose intolerant people now have an excuse to put more nutrition into their diet. Unable to drink regular milk, lactose intolerant people must turn to other options. These options include soy milk and Lactaid. The taste of Lactaid is for another article all together, but chocolate or vanilla soy milk is delicious. Soy is on the list of cancer fighting foods. If a person did not drink soy milk before, now they really do not have much choice. Therfore, they should take being lactose intolerant as an opportunity to drink more soy and get rid of the cholesterol found in cheeses and butters.

Lactose intolerant people are special. “”Hi my name is___ and I am a vegetarian because I just do not see why we should kill one more cow to fill my plate.” “Aw, that’s so nice of you. Well how about, Hi my name is___ and I am lactose intolerant. I did not chose to be lactose intolerant. I do not know how this happened. I just woke up from a nap and reached for a spoon to dig into the icecream in the fridge and before I knew it I was bent over in pain.” Aw, poor thing, I’ll buy you some Lactaid. See, lactose intolerant people are special people. They should feel unique, and they deserved to be loved. Lactose intolerant people don’t have an illness. They have a special circumstance.
