Why I Love Progresso Breadcrumbs

Baked Chicken, Breadcrumbs, Croquettes, Progresso

I love to cook and there are a few ingredients that are absolute necessities in my kitchen. Progresso Breadcrumbs are one of these ingredients. I use their regular breadcrumbs but my favorite to use is their Italian Seasoned Breadcrumbs. Other companies make Italian seasoned breadcrumbs but they are not quite the same.

Aside from the actual breadcrumbs the Italian seasoning usually consists of powdered garlic, powered onion, parsley, and oregano. Progresso Italian Breadcrumbs also have Parmesan cheese and potato flour and while I am not sure if this is the reason the Progresso brand is better, it is what I noticed on the label.

I have tried other breadcrumbs when I didn’t have my Progresso on the shelf, but I was never as happy with the outcome of my cooked dishes. I use these breadcrumbs in the following; meatballs, meatloaf, hamburgers, salmon croquettes, crab cakes, and my famous baked chicken.

The following is my recipe for my famous baked chicken with Progresso breadcrumbs. This is a great recipe if you are a working parent because it is fast to get in the oven, it makes your house smell yummy, and the family will love it. This recipe has the same appeal that fried chicken has because it is crunchy, yet it is healthier because it is not fried.

Ingredients:

One chicken cut up or however much you need to feed your family

Granulated Garlic

Seasoning salt and pepper to taste

Progresso Italian Breadcrumbs

Cooking oil spray

Large baking sheet

Start by spraying your baking sheet with cooking oil and set aside. Cut up any pieces of your chicken that you may need smaller, I usually cut my chicken breasts in half to make it go further. I am lucky, half of my family likes dark meat and the other half likes white meat. Then wash the chicken in cold water.

While the chicken is still wet, dust the meat with seasoning salt, pepper, and garlic. Now coat chicken liberally with Progresso Italian Breadcrumbs. I usually put the breadcrumbs in a deep bowl or pan and roll the chicken around in it to thoroughly coat the chicken.

After chicken is in baking pan shake the breadcrumbs that are left in the bowl, over the chicken in the baking sheet. Put chicken in lightly oiled baking pan and cook at 350 degrees for 50 minutes to an hour or until slightly brown. Once the chicken is done take it out and let it set for a few minutes before you serve it.

This chicken is wonderfully crunchy and very tasty. You can also use these breadcrumbs with fish. I have found other brands of breadcrumbs that have lemon in them. While I thought they would be good used to bake fish, they just were not as tasty as the Progresso Breadcrumbs. Just a thought, maybe Progresso should make lemon pepper breadcrumbs.
