Warm Weather Tents

Bugaboo, Warm Weather

The warm weather tent which is also known as a summer tent or a two season tent is an invaluable shelter for the summer and spring outdoorsman. A warm weather tent is designed to keep the occupants cool and comfortable in the hot and humid conditions, which is why they are well ventilated. Warm weather tents however are generally less weatherproof than their more sturdy cousins, the three season and four season tents. This is not a huge problem if you check weather reports before your trip. Unfortunately the warm weather tents do not usually come with many features. They make up for this lack of features by being extremely light weight and some can even be pitched using canoe paddles, trekking poles, and even suspended from trees. The following five tents are some of the best in their class and each has a notable feature. All of these tents are available for purchase at Amazon.com.

Columbia Bugaboo

The Columbia Bugaboo is a spacious dome styled tent that is large enough for five people to sleep in comfort. A bonus for this tent is the fact that it has four large windows and hooded side vents and roof vents to keep you comfortable and to help reduce condensation. This reduction of condensation is a bonus for all the hot breath of five people in a closed in place. All of the main fly seams are taped to help keep the tent dry which would not seem very important until a spring or summer rain comes down on your head. The bugaboo is very easy to set up as it is built with a shockcorded fiberglass frame, clips and sleeve combo and a ring and pin pole attachment system. It only takes about ten minutes to finish the setup. The tent also has a great storage system and goodies with a gear loft, storage pockets, removable door mat, remote controlled night light and two clear fly windows which is not typical for summer tents. The tent is 108 square feet of floor space and a huge maximum height of 6’2″ an absolutely incredible height for any tent. The tent is about 21 lbs which is a bit heavy considering most summer tents only weigh about five pounds, but 21 lbs is not an excessive amount of weight considering the extras. And to cap it all off its flame retardant, so relax and enjoy the summer evening in comfort with the Columbia Bugaboo.

GoLite Hex 3 Nest

The GoLite Hex 3 Nest is a very versatile tent that can be used as an insert inside of the GoLite Hex 3 tent which means that it can be used all year. The tent is ideal for warm, dry weather since the canopy is made entirely out of mesh which keeps three people fresh and cool while keeping bugs out. It also has a waterproof bathtub floor to keep you dry. The tent is only 2 lbs and could easily be taken anywhere by anyone most importantly it can be erected by using a single center pole, or by hanging it from a tree branch above which makes for ultra simplistic set up. The tent is a compact 59 square feet with a maximum height of only 5’6″. The greatness of this tent however is not its size but for the fact that it is very light comes with a carrying case, can be set up using canoe paddles, and can be used year round as an insert.

Texsport Kingwood

Another large tent is the Texsport Kingwood which is large enough to sleep up to six people comfortably and is great for three couples since the tent can be separated to create three individual rooms for added privacy. It also comes with three doors which make for easy access and increased ventilation. For even greater ventilation the Kingwood has four windows which also make for awesome outdoor viewing. For even warmer summer days the ceiling has mesh panels. The Kingwood comes with plenty of storage pockets for all of your stuff and additional gear. The pole system made of four fiberglass poles provides easy setup and a sturdy construction. The floor space is quite extensive at 128 square feet and a maximum height of about 6’1″. The real benefit of this large tent is its dividers to make for a cozy atmosphere and a sense of seclusion in a tent with five other people.

GoLite Lair 2 Nest

The GoLite Lair 2 Nest tent is designed to be used as a stand alone warm weather tent but as an added treat it can be used as an insert in the GoLite Lair 1 and Lair 2 tents to keep bugs away. This means that it can be used year round and you have gotten your moneys worth for a whole year use. This tent is made of mesh with an all mesh canopy which makes for a great stargazing experience. The floor has a multicolored bathtub floor made of nylon to keep water out. The GoLite Lair 2 Nest is also easily set up using trekking poles and six stakes. It can also be suspended from a tree branch as an easy alternative. It comes with one large zippered door for easy access and has a square footage of 34 with a maximum height of only about 4′. The beautiful thing about this warm weather tent is that it only weighs a mere 1 pound 8 ounces and is so portable and easy to set up that it gives you more time to enjoy the outdoors without being concerned about setting up the tent.

MSR Missing Link Shelter

An interesting warm weather tent is the MSR Missing Link shelter which is a light and comfortable tent that is designed accommodate two people and all of their gear. It’s made out of super light materials which makes this tent only 3 lbs. You can set the tent up by using trekking poles or if you do not have any the tent can be suspended from a tree. It is well ventilated to keep you nice and cool but most especially it is comfortable on hot summer nights. The unique thing about this tent is its large awning which extends from the front of tent. This large awning provides a space for gear or it can be used as a covered cooking area for added comfort of cooking in the shade. The Missing link is 37 square feet with an additional 14 square feet of awning space but only has a maximum interior height of 3.5 feet, though the awning has a full sized head space.
