It is January once again which means that all the movie studios have a new slate of movies for the upcoming year. In recent years Universal Studios has taken a backseat to other studios. In the past decade Universal Studios has only finished in the top three grossing studios three times and all three times occurred in the first half of the decade. In 2009 Universal’s top grossing movie, Fast and Furious, only finished 17th for the year. Here are the movies coming up in 2010 from Universal Studios that hope to produce a much better year for Universal Studios.
Universal Studios 2010 Preview: Leap Year
Release Date: January 8th, 2010
Amy Adams and Matthew Goode star in this romantic comedy about a girl trying to get the perfect guy to marry her. Then well, you know what happens next because it happens in every romantic comedy. Some other guy comes along yadda, yadda, yadda. Same old stuff basically which is why Leap Year got horrible reviews and did pretty bad at the box office.
Universal Studios 2010 Preview: The Wolfman
Release Date: February 12th, 2010
When you’re not doing well at the box office then why not remake one of your studios’ classics? Okay, so remakes are getting old but at least Wolfman is a movie that hasn’t been done in a while and a cast of Benicio Del Torro, Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt makes it interesting.
Universal Studios 2010 Preview: Green Zone

March seems awfully early for a Matt Damon movie but I’m not complaining, especially since Green Zone reunites Matt Damon with the director of the Bourne trilogy, Paul Greengrass. In Green Zone Matt Damon is a chief warrant officer during the Iraqi war. Damon and his men are sent into the Iraqi desert to find weapons of mass destruction.

In the future there is an evil corporation (of course) called the Union. The Union creates very expensive mechanical organs for people that need new organs but if they don’t pay their debt then they send “Repo Men” to retrieve the organs. When one of the Repo Men doesn’t pay his own bill he becomes the hunted as his partner comes after him.
Universal Studios 2010 Preview: MacGruber

Because “A Night at the Roxbury”, “Superstar” and “The Ladies’ Man” were so successful (that’s sarcasm folks) somebody decided it was a good idea to make another full feature film based on a 30 second Saturday Night Light skit that wasn’t good in the first place. All you need to know about this movie is that Ryan Phillippe and Val Kilmer are in it. In other words, Ryan Phillippe and Val Kilmer’s careers are over.
Universal Studios 2010 Preview: Robin Hood

With director Ridley Scott on board and Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett as Robin Hood and Maid Marian this figures to be a good remake of the classic story of Robin Hood. Unfortunately Robin Hood has been done well so many times that it’s going to have to be better than just good.
