Honor a mom-to-be with a twin-themed baby shower celebrating double blessings. And that doesn’t mean just multiplying storks or teddy bears by two on the invitations. Here are a few unique themes to help you celebrate the double blessing of twins in style.
Celebrate the Pair
One of the top twin baby shower themes is “Two Peas in a Pod.” When I was pregnant with my twins, my mother used this as the theme for my shower. My cake was adorned with sugar cookies shaped like peapods, and guest received peapod candles as party favors. The theme was so special to me, I now collect peapod items, and I even named my blog after it.
The theme has continued to grow in popularity since my own shower three years ago. Pea-themed merchandise is readily available at paper goods stores and stationary sellers. Green balloons look like peas, as do any decorations with green polka dots.
The peapod theme also translates appropriate to any multiples beyond twins, whether triplets, quadruplets or more. Just keep adding peas to the pod.
If you are not feeling the peapod theme, honor a pair of babies with pears. The autumn fruit, teamed up with the message “It’s a Pair!” can be used to guide color selections, decor, and the menu itself.
Host an ice cream sundae twin shower with the phrase “Two Scoops” as the hook. The dessert party has an easy menu—just use a variety of ice cream flavors, as well as toppings, bowls, and cones. Ice cream colors set the tone, and small ice cream truck toys on the tables can add a whimsical touch.
The story of Noah’s Ark is a perfect springboard for a twin shower, particularly for its Biblical theme or to please an animal-loving mom-to-be. With the idea of using creatures two-by-two, it’s easy to translate the theme inexpensively. A simple Noah’s Ark toy, including its pairs of animals, can also provide a color scheme as well as be useful as a centerpiece.
Fans of Disney expecting boy/girl twins will find magic in a Mickey and Minnie Mouse party. A good friend had a small gathering for me when I was pregnant with my boy/girl twins, and she created a diaper cake complete with small Mickey and Minnie stuffed animals on top. It was a perfect addition to the small shower, and its diapers and stuffed animals were used after the party.
Babies and Books
Before my babies were born, I received two onesies festooned with two Dr. Seuss characters, Thing 1 and Thing 2, from the book “Cat in the Hat.” The characters are a fun springboard for a twin baby shower with its whimsical bright red and turquoise colors. Serve red velvet cupcakes with blue cotton candy to simulate the Thing hair. Don’t forget to put the book on display!
Storybook characters Raggedy Ann and Andy are a classic theme for a twin boy/girl baby shower. The characters would be wonderful for a summer shower with a red, white, and blue color scheme. Put a set of the dolls, whether new or vintage, as the centerpiece of the decorations.
Of course, vintage characters like author Laura Lee Hope’s “The Bobbsey Twins” or even learn-to-read superstars “Dick and Jane” can also be a springboard for a retro-themed twin shower.
The book theme is also a good way to build up a twin library—which needs to be doubly large—by asking gift givers to include their favorite children’s book as a special gift for the babies-to-be. Have the guests drop their books into a vintage red wagon near the gift table, and provide book plates for each guest to inscribe their books.
Twin baby shower ideas can grow beyond the party. The same ideas can inspire nursery decor or be recycled for a first birthday when the pair hits the one-year milestone.
